INTERIM SENIOR BUYER

The BCGEU is one of BC's largest labour unions, representing over 107,000 workers in both public and private sectors. Our members work in almost every sector and come from across the province.
The BCGEU is seeking an experienced Senior Buyer to join the BCGEU procurement team on an Interim basis to support the union’s core mission : uniting working people in BC in a democratic organization that acts on their behalf, promoting their social, cultural, and economic interests.
As a Senior Buyer, you’ll manage the procurement of materials, goods and services for the BCGEU, ensuring you are optimising the cost, value, quality and service for the continued success and effectiveness of the Procurement Office, under the direction of the Procurement Officer and the Director of Investments and Pension Services. The Senior Buyer drives negotiations with suppliers, analyses market trends, and manages relationships with key stakeholders, playing a vital role in the operational efficiency and financial success of the BCGEU.
This position is located at our Burnaby office. Effective date to be determined.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :
Procurement :
- Strong working knowledge of procurement policies, procedures and practices
- Collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders of the union to carry out procurement functions in a professional and courteous manner
- Responsible for a variety of procurement functions including, but not limited to, preparation of competitive solicitation documents, issuing addenda and setting up evaluation processes for the project team.
- Review technical specifications to determine the best procurement method to be used for the specific goods and services.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand their requirements and provide procurement solutions that meet their goals.
- Schedule demonstrations for Evaluation Team to determine that the technical specifications are suitable to meet the user department needs.
- Perform market research and analysis of products and services and stay informed of market trends and changes.
- Identify, evaluate, and selects suppliers based on submitted quote, proposal, quality, cost, and delivery capabilities
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement strategies to optimize procurement processes and reduce expenses
- Prepare detailed procurement specifications, formal solicitation documents; manage quotes and proposals submitted from suppliers and consultants; evaluate proposals, make detailed recommendation decision to Executive for final approval of award
- Qualify vendors, evaluate bids and proposals, negotiate pricing terms and contracts to achieve cost savings and ensure value is maintained
- Respond to inquiries and address issues promptly and effectively
- Maintain accurate and timely records of procurement activities
- Organize and prioritize a variety of projects and multiple tasks in an effective and timely manner, set priorities and meet deadlines

The successful applicant will possess the following :
SALARY & BENEFITS
Bi-Weekly : $4,408.03 - $4,788.96
Annual : $115,002.42 – $124,940.61
Regular full-time position. This is a unionized position, and all terms of employment are governed by the applicable collective agreement. Paid vacation (5 weeks), comprehensive benefits package, and enrolment in the Public Service Pension Plan.
Travel is required; therefore, applicants must hold a valid B.C. Driver's license. As part of your terms of employment, you will be required to have an approved, union-made, non-luxury vehicle upon successful completion of the six-month probationary period. Full details and conditions can be found in the BCGEU BCUWU collective agreement.
Upon the successful completion of the probationary period, the successful candidate may be considered for a hybrid work arrangement subject to the terms of the collective agreement.
The BCGEU does not reimburse moving expenses for successful candidates living outside of the greater Vancouver region.
