Responsibilities and goals associated with the positionReporting to the Chief of operations, the Inspector oversees the proactive enforcement of regulations and ordinances related to municipal by-laws under her or his jurisdiction by conducting preventive patrol activities in areas under her or his responsibility and responding to service calls, assisting residents and other municipal departments and issuing tickets when necessary. The jobholder's main responsibilities are as follows : Respond to and handle complaints and petitions from the public; provide the public with information on the terms of by-laws and ordinances instituted by the City, and supply requested information.Patrol the City to ensure compliance with the regulations under her or his jurisdiction; gather and report required information on any anomalies in regulations, signage, public spaces and public health.Take appropriate action to enforce the various municipal by-laws under the Inspection - Public Security jurisdiction, including those pertaining to parking lots, graffiti, animal control on City territory, etc.Issue tickets when necessary to ensure compliance with municipal by-laws under her or his jurisdiction.Record data and draft reports required by senior management related to actions, events, and various daily activities.Monitor municipal buildings and respond to alarms.Issue parking permits as required.Ensure communication among the various divisions of other municipal departments.Capture stray dogs or supervise the work of subcontractors assigned to this task, if applicable.Register dogs and issue dog licences to their owners.Testify in court during legal proceedings, ticket disputes and prosecutions.Establish security perimeters when needed during traffic accidents until the appropriate authorities arrive at the scene; close off streets during fires or special events.Gather the required information for damage claims to the City's public property or for damage that the City causes to private property.Ensure that mandatory health and safety measures are enforced by her or his team.Drive an emergency vehicle and ensure its normal maintenance and advise her or his supervisor of any defects detected.Administer first aid as required.Perform any other related tasks. RequirementsHave a high school diploma and at least two (2) years of relevant experience;Hold a valid Class 4A driver's licence;Be able to speak and write French, and to speak English;Be able to fill out forms and documents in a legible manner;Be tactful, calm and courteous.
