Job description

Are you a detail-oriented and analytical accounting professional looking to make a real impact?

Our client, a leading global producer and exporter of high-value seafood products, is seeking a Cost Accountant to join their team at their St. Simon, NB processing plant.

In this role, you’ll be at the heart of financial operations, helping optimize production costs, analyze key financial data, and provide insights that drive profitability and efficiency. Working closely with plant management and reporting to Head Office, you will play a crucial role in strategic decision-making by ensuring accurate cost tracking, inventory management, and financial reporting.

This is a hands-on, high-impact position that offers the opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment within a thriving industry.

Requirements :

  • Prepare and maintain cost accounting records, including production costs, inventory valuation, and variance analysis.
  • Monitor daily production activities and assess direct and indirect costs.
  • Analyze raw material, labor, and overhead costs, and provide detailed reports to management and head office regarding cost trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual cost audits, reconciling cost accounts, and ensuring accuracy in financial reports.
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and forecast, ensuring that cost assumptions are accurate and aligned with operational goals.
  • Coordinate and support inventory management by ensuring that inventory counts are accurate and that costs related to raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods are appropriately allocated.
  • Work closely with the production team to understand processes and cost drivers, providing guidance on cost-saving initiatives and efficiency improvements.
  • Prepare financial reports and communicate findings to senior leadership, highlighting potential risks and opportunities related to cost control.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and industry-specific financial practices.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of internal controls and cost policies to ensure proper cost allocation and data integrity.

Requirements :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in cost accounting, preferably within a manufacturing or food processing environment.
  • Strong understanding of cost accounting principles, financial analysis, and inventorymanagement.
  • Proficiency Sage accounting software and ERP systems.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and support management in decision-making.
  • Knowledge of seafood processing operations and supply chain management.
