FedEx Express Canada has an exciting opportunity for looking for a Senior Safety Specialist .
The position is located in Richmond, British Columbia and is currently on a Hybrid work model.
Role Summary :
The Safety Specialist is responsible for ensuring FedEx Express Canada compliance with all environmental, occupational health, safety and DG requirements. Implements HSE and dangerous goods programs for all global operating divisions that will protect employees, conserve company physical assets and improve dangerous goods safety while ensuring compliance with applicable regulations. Provides support to FedEx legal and regulatory teams as well as assistance when required for representation of FedEx to external agencies, customers, vendors, and regulatory entities. Performs other duties as assigned.
This role plays an integral part in achieving company’s safety objectives and driving a strong safety culture.
Primary / Essential Responsibilities :
Risk Assessment : Conducting risk assessments and hazard analyses to identify potential safety issues and develop strategies to mitigate them.
Incident Investigation : Investigating accidents, incidents, and near-misses to determine their causes and recommend corrective actions to prevent their recurrence.
Emergency Response Planning : Creating emergency response plans and conducting drills to prepare for and respond to emergencies such as fires, chemical spills, or natural disasters.
Safety Inspections : Conducting regular safety inspections of the workplace, equipment, and processes to identify and rectify safety issues.
Safety Communication : Promoting a culture of safety within the organization through regular communication and awareness campaigns.
Recommendations : Providing recommendations for safety improvements and ensuring that these recommendations are acted upon.
Safety Committee : Collaborating with the safety committee or other relevant groups within the organization to address safety concerns.
Continuous Improvement : Continuously monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of safety programs and making adjustments as necessary.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required :
- University Degree (Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental or Engineering).
- 5-7 years previous experience in Health, Safety & Environmental within a manufacturing, Transport or Oil & Gas environment
- Must have Certified Safety Professional Certification or in process of getting certified.
- Knowledge of relevant regulations, codes and legislative requirements relating to Labor Canada and Road regulation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suites .
- Excellent communication skills required, in order to appropriately communicate with individuals across all levels of the organization.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize and organize work to meet deadlines and multiple desired requests.
