About the position
Duties
Under the supervision of the research scientist, the student will conduct scientific experiments and other laboratory work, analyze data, write reports and manuscripts, and write a thesis including scientific research background, methodology, results obtained, and discussion. As part of the research project, duties may include, but are not limited to, protein purification and characterization, chemical treatment / polysaccharide preparation / glycan extractions for glycomics, glycomics analyses of carbohydrates and / or glycoproteins by liquid chromatography - mass spectrometry, and plant / seaweed metabolomics studies by mass spectrometry and / or NMR spectroscopy. Work environment
The research lab and Glycomics Support Unit is located at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, Lethbridge Research and Development Centre in Lethbridge, Alberta. The student will be working with and trained by a team of glycomics researchers and experts in biochemistry, and carbohydrate chemistry. The focus of this research team is to understand how carbohydrates are formed, modified, and consumed in agricultural plant, animal, and environmental systems. The student will be training under the research scientist, research assistants, and facility managers. The duration of the project is from 2026-2028. Positions to be filled

Currently enrolled or will be enrolled by the date of appointment in a master's or doctorate program at the University of Lethbridge with a specialization in : Biochemistry or related discipline.Note : Must be currently recognized as having full-time student status in the academic institution in which you are presently enrolled, pending approval of acceptance or in the process of submitting your application. Proof of enrollment will be required prior to start date and the student must be returning to full-time studies for your next academic term.
