Helmitin has been a leader in the research, development, and manufacturing of industrial adhesives for over 100 years. The corporate head office is in Toronto, Ontario with manufacturing sites in Canada and the US. Reporting to the President / CEO, the Technical Director is responsible for directing, strategizing, and supporting research and development activities. As a member of the Senior Management Team, the successful candidate will also initiate, execute, and track projects that are aligned with and support the company strategy.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES :
- Direct chemists in the formulation of new products and improvement of existing products
- Ensure projects are successfully and efficiently executed for market success
- Supervise, assess, and develop all laboratory staff in Canada and the US
- Provide technical support to Sales and Production / Manufacturing personnel
- Attend field technical service calls to support Sales with the introduction of new products
- Provide technical supervision in the scale up of new products
- Direct and manage Quality Assurance personnel and activities
- Attend technical and / or sales meetings to discuss opportunities, feasibility of projects, and support Sales Team objectives
- Assist Manufacturing Operations in the creation of manufacturing procedures for new or existing procedural modifications
- Provide technical information for the creation and revision of Product Data Sheets for the sales and marketing team
- Support the Regulatory Compliance Manager with the creation or amendment of SDSs to meet GHS and regulatory requirements
- Research new chemicals and technologies in adhesive and related fields
- Meet with suppliers’ technical staff and visit facilities to maintain technical expertise and proficiency with current technology
- Stay current with new technologies by researching technical literature, and attending training courses, conferences, and trade shows
