Construction Safety Trainer

Position Overview
The Construction Safety Trainer is responsible for the project onboarding training, orientation, and site qualification for all employees assigned to the SMR-X Project, as well as day-to-day preparation and handling of training material and records.

Location
The position will be based on our project in Darlington, ON. The successful candidate will be local to Darlington, Oshawa or surrounding areas, or willing to relocate.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for training project employees on a variety of Environmental Health and Safety related programs such as Safety Orientation, Safe Work Planning, Respiratory Fit Testing, Elevating Work Platform, Work at Heights, Confined Space Entry, First Aid etc.
- Create an environment conducive to learning for employees
- Collaborate across the local organization and network to gather expectations, share best practices and coordinate program requirement
- Manage content of existing training programs and create new training material as needed
- Daily preparation of training packages and attendance records.
- Work with team to plan training schedules and set up courses.
- Manage resources including facilities, equipment and availability.
- Handle the collection of completed training records and ensure proper scanning and storage per procedures.
- Ensure training material, documents and completion records are stored securely and are retrievable from the shared project folder.
- Promote a safety culture that supports continuous improvement in the EHS management system through active communication, participation and development of skills.
- Foster a positive safety culture in which no one gets hurt
Qualifications
- A working knowledge of Provincial OHS Legislation
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Health and Safety and training/facilitating within the construction industry
- Relevant post-secondary education or equivalent experience in Construction or Health and Safety
- Demonstrated Leadership abilities with strong interpersonal and communication skills
- A designation such as NCSO would be considered an asset
- Train the Trainer Qualifications in programs such as Work at Heights, Confined Space Entry etc.
- Strong analytical/problem solving skills
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook)
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Ability to work collaboratively and effectively in teams
- Ability to plan, manage, and prioritize multiple, concurrent assignments and tasks
- Comfortable working in a rapidly changing environment
- Strong sense of urgency and accountability
- Knowledge of project management concepts
- Strong decision-making skills
- Strong organizational skills; attention to detail
- Willingness to contribute toward, and assist colleagues with projects across functional areas and outside of primary responsibilities to contribute toward the overall team’s success
