Alexandra Hospital is actively seeking applicants for a Recreation Therapist position.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Clinical Services, the Recreation Therapist is responsible for providing therapeutic recreation services to patients with the goal of helping patients gain independence, reintegrate in their community, and pursue leisure and recreational activities that are meaningful and satisfying to them. The Recreation Therapist collaborates with the patient and the inter-professional team to deliver an innovative rehabilitation service utilizing volunteers to help patients and their caregivers reach their optimal level of recovery.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess patients and review reports to determine patients' current and potential functioning level
• Prepare individualized and group treatment plans either independently or through a multidisciplinary team approach, based on health concerns and on recommendations from physicians or other health professionals
• Ensuring recreation plans are suitable for patients' physical and cognitive condition that are in accordance with their preferences with the goal to maintain and / or optimize function
• Implement treatment plans by carrying out specialized therapy sessions employing approaches and techniques such as recreational, sports or other movement therapy
