Job Description

This position is presently located at the St. Thomas site.
This posting is for one (1) current vacancy.
This position is anticipated to extend until March 31, 2026, subject to availability of work and funding .
Reporting to theProgram Manager, the Public Health Inspector (PHI) provides public health inspection services to communities, institutions, and individuals throughout the life cycle for the purposes of promotion of health, prevention of illness and injury, and control of infectious diseases.
PHIs are actively involved in the delivery of the following Health Protection Programs : Control of Infectious Diseases, Food Safety, Safe Water, Rabies Prevention and Control, Infection Control, Vector Borne Diseases, Climate Change, Personal Services Settings, Risk Assessment and Inspection of Facilities and Health Hazard Management and Prevention. Responsibilities include inspection and enforcement of applicable sections of the Health Protection and Promotion Act, and its regulations and protocols, the Ontario Public Health Standards, and associated Protocols as well as this agency’s internal policies and procedures, all of which are amended from time to time.
Qualifications : EDUCATION
- Current Certificate in Public Health Inspection (Canada) C.P.H.I.(C)
- Four (4) year degree from a post-secondary academic institution that is accredited by the Board of Certification of the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors (CIPHI) or equivalent

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
Terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with CUPECol lective Agreement.
Salary Range : $41.54 / hr to $48.62 / hr (70 hours in a two-week period).
Will receive vacation pay each pay period as well as pay in lieu of benefits following successful completion of the probationary period. Offered enrollment in the OMERS pension plan (if enrolled, in lieu benefits will reduce).
A criminal reference check completed within the last six (6) months from a Canadian Police Information Centre (CPID), inclusive of vulnerable sector screening, will be required of the successful candidate.
Immunization Requirements : Fully vaccinated against COVID-19, are able to provide proof of immunization, and acknowledgement to follow Southwestern Public Health's policies and processes related to COVID-19 management in the workplace.
