Job Summary

The Team

The BC Parks Regional Operations Thompson Section team is a dedicated group of 16, including area supervisors, park rangers, and a section head, who work to manage and protect provincial parks and protected areas. As part of an established team, they collaborate with conservation specialists, Indigenous relations officers, and community liaisons to safeguard recreational spaces while honoring conservation and First Nation values. The Role

As the Recreation Service Officer, you'll oversee contracted service deliveries across the Thompson section, ensuring top-quality experiences for park visitors. Working in one of the largest park systems worldwide, you'll play a key role in making BC parks accessible, enjoyable, and well-maintained. This is a unique chance to contribute to visitor satisfaction while preserving natural spaces.

Qualifications :

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Degree in Resource Management or Natural Resource Management or related degree (e.g., geography, environmental studies) and three years of directly related experience, of which a minimum two years' park / recreation management experience and one year of natural resource management; or
  • Degree in Business with focus on project and / or contract management in the Natural Resource Sector (e.g. business administration, public administration) with related experience in project and / or contract management including negotiating terms and conditions; or,
  • Two year technical diploma in natural resource management or Parks Management, or related diploma and five years of directly related experience, of which a minimum two years' park / recreation management and one year of natural resource management.
  • Experience and / or training in contract management, including negotiating terms and conditions.
  • Must maintain Park Ranger designation under the Park Act and comply with BC Parks' uniform policy.
  • Must possess and maintain a Valid Class 5 B.C driver's licence (or ability to obtain one immediately).
  • Must be able to travel, sometimes extensively both within and outside the region and in remote areas for multiple days, by vehicle, boat, air, or foot, in camp conditions and in all weather.

Related Experience :

  • Park management experience includes development and maintenance of recreation facilities, operation of facilities, management of public and private sector recreation services, and employee and public safety and security).
  • Natural Resource management experience includes wildlife or vegetation management programs, resource inventory and research, environmental impact assessment, resource use regulations, resource protection, non-conforming use management, First Nations agreements.
  • Contract management experience includes procurement for services or assets, contract inspection and monitoring, direct financial negotiations, contract agreement writing, dispute resolution.
  • Mandatory Requirement :

  • Current and valid WorkSafe BC recognized Occupational Intermediate First Aid or [previously OFA 2] / Advanced First Aid [previously OFA 3] with Transportation Endorsement

    About this Position :

    Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
