Job Summary :   Amental health peer mentor help Mental Health Services of Student Life with their mental health initiatives especially peer support.

Nature of work :

This position reports to the manager of Mental Health Services of Student Life.

A mental health peer mentor listens and provides social and emotional support to students (mentees). A Peer Mentor can also help students practice various skills related to mental health, wellbeing and self-care (, mindfulness routines). They also participate in outreach initiatives around campus to provide education, and resources around mental health issues

Responsibilities / accountabilities :

  • Scheduleand meet with students (mentees) 1 : 1 for support
  • Assist Student Mental Health Services with mental health awareness campaignsand initiatives (min 1 a month)
  • Assist Student Mental Health Services with the facilitation of wellnessworkshops and groups
  • Facilitation of peer-led support groups
  • Work in person at the university for 80% of their hours

Required Skills :

  • Haveprior experience in a helping role (mental health or vulnerable populationpreferred)
  • Demonstrates emotional intelligence and strong communication skills
  • Evidence of resilience, maturity, and self-reflection capacity
  • Required Education :

  • Bean undergraduate or graduate student with an interest in well-being, mentalhealth, and peer support
  • Verification of Academic credentials may be required
  • Required Experience :
