Food Coordinator - 3.0 hours per day
Under the direction of the Principal and / or designate and the divisional Nutrition Program Coordinator, the food coordinator is responsible for implementing the school's nutrition programming. This includes preparing breakfast, lunch and / or snack. It also includes maintaining kitchen spaces and food storage areas in compliance with safe food handling practices. Other duties include ordering food and supplies, inventory management, maintaining accurate records, and compiling program data for reporting. The food coordinator is expected to prepare high quality, nutritious foods in accordance with Canada's Food Guide, Manitoba's Healthy Food in Schools policy, and the new National School Food Policy. The successful candidate will value and uphold rigorous food safety standards while receiving, preparing, and serving food, as well as when maintaining nutrition spaces.
Duties and responsibilities may include but are not limited to :
- Prepare meals for breakfast, lunch and snack.
- Set menus for breakfast, lunch and snack with support from the divisional nutrition programming coordinator and Child Nutrition Council of Manitoba.
- Maintain nutrition facilities such as kitchens, food and supply storage areas and eating rooms daily in accordance with public health guidelines for food handling establishments.
- Manage food and supply ordering and receive and verify deliveries in accordance with safe food handling procedures. Plan purchases within set budgets, track program expenses incurred throughout school year, and maintain food and supply purchasing records.
- Engage continually with children and youth to ensure meals reflect the diversity of preferences, requirements and cultural backgrounds within schools.
- Maintain records of meals and number of children served each day as well as qualitative feedback from children, youth and parents about meals served at school.
- Monitor students during food programming for safe behaviour and conduct during mealtimes (if applicable).
- Other duties as assigned.
