Job description

What you’ll do:

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Come to work with a positive and professional approach and attitude.
  • Be dependable for all scheduled shifts.
  • Prepare and coordinate period end and year-end financial statements
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts, including bank accounts, prepaid expenses, accruals, and other reconciliations.
  • Ensure financials complies with relevant accounting standards.
  • Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, amortization, and other adjustments.
  • Review general ledger accounts for accuracy, completeness, and reasonableness.
  • Maintain supporting schedules, including fixed assets, inventory, and other key accounts.
  • Assist with annual budget preparation by gathering and analyzing relevant financial data.
  • Perform variance analysis and provide clear explanations to management.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, procedures, and financial controls.
  • Work closely with commodity and departmental managers to understand business lines and explain financial results.
  • Support internal and external auditing requirements, including preparation of working papers and documentation.
  • Respond to auditor inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
  • Prepare GST, PST, Motor Fuel Tax, and other statutory filings as required.
  • Support project tracking and financial monitoring.
  • Perform cost and margin analysis to support profitability assessment and decision-making.
  • Conduct inventory analysis and investigations to identify discrepancies, trends, and control issues.
  • Support special projects and process improvement initiatives; make recommendations to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and internal controls
  • Work independently on assigned tasks while exercising sound judgment to escalate issues as appropriate.
  • Ensure an exceptional level of service is provided.
  • Adhere to and enforce all Dawson Co-operative Union policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to and enforce all Dawson Co-operative Union health and safety standards per the Health and Safety manual.
  • Plan for self-development and take initiative to improve own knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Who are you:

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree in Business Administration or Commerce with a focus in Accounting or Finance, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Minimum 2–5 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting standards.
  • Experience with general ledger, reconciliations, and financial close processes.
  • Proficiency in accounting systems, with a preference for experience with JD Edwards, and software systems, such as Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information to non-finance stakeholders.
  • High level of integrity and professionalism.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid Class Five driver’s license with a clean abstract.
  • Ability to undergo and receive clearance for a criminal records check.
  • Satisfactory credit report / history.
