Under the supervision of the Neighbourhood Activator, this position is responsible for the execution of the Town’s Hey Neighbour programming at Town-owned amenities. This may include but is not limited to the facilitation of neighbourhood programming, door-to-door letter delivery, pick-up and delivery of equipment, engaging with the public, ensuring public safety, and responding to general inquiries.
Accountabilities:
Premium Quality Programs and Services

Assist in the execution of high-quality neighbourhood programming.

Adapt Hey Neighbour programming within a casual drop-in program environment and provide suitable, accessible modifications inclusive for participants of all ages, stages and abilities.

Engage with members of the public through positive interactions and communications.

Provide reminders about the safe use of public parks and Town amenities.

Take a proactive and collaborative approach in addressing any issues or challenges that may arise during Hey Neighbour initiatives and refer any escalating concerns to the Supervisor.
Exceptional Customer Service

Build strong and positive relationships with the public.

Sustain an awareness of neighbourhood programming events and initiatives to help maintain an awareness of public engagement during an event or initiative, and be available to provide front-facing customer service.

Respond to all inquiries in a positive, timely and proactive fashion.

Maintain a positive, professional and engaging approach to all work tasks.
Maintain a Safe and Secure Environment

Proactively approach health and safety expectations through compliance with Policy, Procedures and Emergency Plans and work in a manner that is safe for self and others.

Be knowledgeable about Town facilities and be able to assist the public or direct them to appropriate staff for further information as required.

Inspect the program area to ensure space is safe and clean.

Report any problems related to parks and Town amenities immediately to the Parks Patrol team or Facility Staff.

Actively work to prevent accidents, enforce rules, and educate the public about safe behaviour, and inform the Supervisor of any escalating issues as they arise.

Respond appropriately to accidents/incidents, contacting emergency services if needed.

Work collaboratively with all team members to ensure optimal levels of public service.

Communicate regularly and with as much detail as possible to the Supervisor.
Effective and Efficient Administration Processes

Complete, maintain and submit all appropriate administrative work, including engagement tracking, inventory control and incident/accident reports, in a thorough and timely manner.

Ensure confidentiality and keep all files with sensitive information in a secure location.

Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
-
Secondary school diploma or equivalent.
-
A university degree or college diploma in a recreation-related program is preferred.
-
Experience in recreation program facilitation.
-
Proven customer service skills and experience working with the public.
-
Parks and Recreation Ontario HIGH FIVE® PHCD (Principles in Healthy Child Development) is considered an asset.
-
Current Standard First Aid and CPR C is considered an asset.
-
Current Police Record Check – Vulnerable Sector Screening.
-
Superior verbal and written communication and public relations skills.
-
Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Employment Standards Act is an asset.

Computer literacy and knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
-
Ability to effectively collaborate with others.
-
Ability to ensure a high level of confidentiality is maintained.

Physical ability to perform job duties, including some heavy lifting and working outdoors year-round.

Must have a valid G driver’s license, access to a personal vehicle for Town use (mileage provided) and ability to operate a Town van and/or truck.
Compensation:
The rate for this position is $22.97 per hour. This part-time position is for a maximum of 20 hours/week (flexible as needed). The successful candidates must be willing to work irregular hours, including daytime, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
