This casual role offers a unique opportunity to support the safety and security of AHS staff, patients, and visitors across Central Alberta. As a casual PSO, you’ll adapt to varied settings, responding to security calls and Emergency Codes to help maintain a secure environment. Your work will promote a respectful, compassionate atmosphere that supports the health, safety, and well-being of all Albertans accessing healthcare in our Central Zone facilities. In this role, you will be appointed as a Community Peace Officer, with the responsibility to apply specific acts and regulations that ensure the safety and security of our healthcare settings. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential to collaborate effectively with clinical teams and manage high-stress situations. Key responsibilities include documenting and reporting incidents using our online reporting system and applying sound judgment and discretion within legal and policy frameworks. Description

As a Protective Services Officer II, you will provide security and protective services for all patients, visitors, staff and AHS property including : violence monitoring, prevention and intervention; enforcement of applicable federal, provincial and municipal statutes; asset loss prevention and internal investigations; preparation of court documents and securing evidence; risk assessment and hazard identification; arrests, apprehensions and detentions of persons and first responder to critical events. You will provide support for facility departments on matters of security and safety practices, participates in reviewing and recommending policy, and fosters and maintains positive public relations through relationships with internal and external contacts.

Required Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent.

Active (or eligible) for appointment as a Community Peace Officer with enforcement duties involving the public, as identified by the Province of Alberta / Solicitor General.

Successful completion of Alberta Health Services or Alberta Justice and Solicitor General Community Peace Officer Induction Training Program (6 weeks program).

Valid Class 5 (non-GDL) Driver's Licence.

Valid Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (P.A.R.E.) completed under 4 : 45 minute, within 6 months prior to commencing employment.

Additional Required Qualifications

Active or eligible to become a Community Peace Officer appointed by Alberta Solicitor General.

Alberta class 5 operator’s license, or a provincial equivalent, with no more than four demerits and no charges or pending suspensions.
