ADVERTISEMENT # 44321 POSITION TYPE FULL-TIME Introduction Indigenous Excellence in Education is responsible to provide leadership and direction to address systemic barriers and inequities that currently and historically have impacted Indigenous student achievement. The division leads the development, review, and implementation of policies and initiatives related to Indigenous education, educational equity, system-wide change, and assesses provincial programming, standards, and reporting requirements. The division facilitates and maintains relationships with community, education stakeholders, and Indigenous rights holders to challenge systemic racism and barriers to equity throughout the K-12 education system particularly for Indigenous students and families in Manitoba. Duties : The Consultant of the Anti-Racism and Equity Unit is responsible to provide system leadership in policy and program development focused on anti-racism and equity initiatives within the department and across Manitoba school divisions. The consultant is responsible to develop and implement assigned workplan and project charter activities related to anti-racism and equity within government and in collaboration with community. The consultant reports to and provides advice and assistance to the Coordinator of Anti-Racism and Equity, on matters related to their workplan with a specific focus on the development of an anti-racism policy framework within Manitoba Education and Early Learning and Child Care. Qualifications : Essential :
- Bachelor of education (BEd) or social work (BSW).
- Significant experience in developing, managing and maintaining relationships with school divisions, community, education stakeholder groups, and other government department officials including working with and consulting with senior management.
- Strong interpersonal and analytical skills with the ability to gain the respect / cooperation of a broad range of department staff, as well as community, school leaders, professional personnel, and stakeholders in the larger educational community.
- Knowledge of and experience working with anti-racism practices (including but not limited to Indigenous racism) in education.
- Thorough knowledge of equity practices and the ability to exercise judgment in the field.
- High level of political acumen to deal with conflict in politically sensitive environments.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills with shifting priorities and deadlines.
- Strong writing skills demonstrating a broad range and high quality of writing for publication in presentations, etc.
- Strong verbal communication skills including experience presenting complex ideas and issues to multiple audiences.
- Experience in project management and leading project teams.
