Job Description
Summary
Within the context of a client and family centred model of care and, in accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values, and strategic directions of Providence Health Care, the person promotes a safe, respectful, and civil working environment for patients, residents, families, visitors and staff.
Reporting to the Executive Director, Workforce Strategy, the Lead, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) leads the execution of initiatives that achieve Providence Health Care’s (PHC) annual equity, diversity and inclusion strategic priorities in order to achieve a more equitable, diverse and inclusive workplace that enables every member of our diverse workforce to thrive. Under the leadership of the Executive Director, the Lead also assists in the review, development, and implementation of human resources policies, practices and procedures to advance PHC’s commitment to an equitable and inclusive workplace.
Qualifications / Skills and Education
QUALIFICATIONS :
Education, Training and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in a related field (i.e., Human Resources, Sociology, Communications, Education, Business Administration, Law, etc.). Minimum of five (5) years of progressively more responsible diversity, accessibility and inclusion experience in a work environment, including experience in implementation of and supporting diversity committees and employee resource groups and program planning. Formal training or certification in EDI, fostering equity, diversity, inclusion, building global competencies, and / or intercultural communication. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Life or work experience in frontline, grassroots or community social justice organizing is an asset.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Sound knowledge of federal and provincial human rights and employment policy and legislation relevant to diversity, inclusion and equity.
- Proven commitment to working with and supporting BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and people of colour), women, trans, Two-Spirit, gender non-binary and non-conforming people and communities.
- Demonstrated intersectional knowledge and understanding of issues of sexism, misogyny, racism, cissexism, transphobia, heterosexism, homophobia, biphobia, xenophobia, ageism, ableism, classism, White supremacy, anti-Black racism, colonialism, and settler colonialism.
- Demonstrated ability to positively engage and enroll colleagues to build effective and productive partnerships and alliances to achieve results.
- Demonstrated ability to manage engagement with diverse stakeholder groups in complex, sometimes ambiguous and decentralized organizations.
- Ability to influence and operate in a matrix organization.
- Ability to be resilient, flexible and creative in approaching complex problems.
- Strong understanding of change management, project management and communication key principles and best practices to develop and oversee large scale change initiatives.
- Ability to apply change management methodologies in the design and development of various programs, frameworks and tools.
- Superior writing, speaking, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to apply good judgment and political expertise to communicate sensitive information to, and collaborate with, a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
- Proven team building, problem solving, and conflict resolution skills to facilitate critical thinking and problem resolution.
- Demonstrated ability to foster creativity, innovation, and systems thinking in strategic planning involving cultural shifts and large-scale change initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate workshops, meetings, and events with multi-level and multidisciplinary staff to achieve effective outcomes.
- Ability to operate related equipment, including relevant computer applications.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.

Duties and Responsibilities
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Under the direction of the Executive Director, and with input from PHC’s Senior Director Leadership Team, manages the development and implementation of PHC’s annual equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) work plan.
2. Works collaboratively with leaders from other PHC departments, services or programs and in a reciprocal, supportive and coordinated relationship with PHC’s Indigenous Wellness and Reconciliation Team to achieve the outcomes of PHC’s annual EDI work plan.
3.Manages the development and implementation of EDI projects and initiatives.
4. Facilitates internal taskforces, committees or working groups.
5. Leads the development and implementation of stakeholder consultation and engagement strategies.
6 . Develops and implements engagement activities to build awareness, desire, and knowledge around equity, diversity and inclusion to foster personal and organizational change.
7. Coordinates and delivers workplace equity, diversity and inclusion focused events for staff and medical staff.
8 .In collaboration with key partners, coordinates and delivers workplace equity, diversity and inclusion learning for staff and medical staff.
9. Partners with Human Resources team members and other internal stakeholders to develop and provide ongoing leadership for policies, programs, practices and initiatives that support PHC’s commitment to an equitable and inclusive workplace. These include de-biasing hiring and promoting; ensuring respect and non-discrimination; responding to reports of racism and other forms of harassment.
10. Evaluates EDI program effectiveness by measuring outcomes and determining whether the EDI objectives have been achieved.
11. Performs other related duties as assigned.
