Job description

Job Description

Job Description

New Flyer is North America’s heavy-duty transit bus leader, providing sustainable mobility solutions through transit buses, technology, and infrastructure. New Flyer is a subsidiary of NFI Group, a leading independent bus and coach manufacturer and a leader in electric mass mobility solutions. Building on its 90+ year legacy of innovation, New Flyer is the only manufacturer offering all three types of zero-emission transit buses, with over 1,900 zero-emission buses delivered to date. Proudly serving all 25 of the largest transit agencies in North America, New Flyer actively supports over 35,000 heavy-duty transit buses currently operated by approximately 500 agencies.

POSITION SUMMARY

Join New Flyer’s Machine Shop team and play a key role in building industry-leading transit buses. As a Machine Operator, you’ll be responsible for the full cycle of precision fabrication—configuring and programming machines, setting up and fine-tuning operations, and ensuring top-quality production. You’ll work with advanced equipment, including press brakes, flat sheet lasers, shears, tube lasers, and tube benders, to produce high-quality metal components used in bus manufacturing.

We’re looking for operators who don’t just run machines but know how to get the most out of them—those who can program, troubleshoot, and optimize performance while maintaining strict quality standards.

WHY JOIN OUR TEAM :

  • Competitive wages and a comprehensive benefits package.
  • A continuous learning environment.
  • Ability to advance your career with a growing company.
  • NFI Group has been named a Manitoba Top Employer for 2020 and this is the tenth since the competition was established in 2007.
  • Employee social committee organizes numerous events throughout the year, including summer barbecues, holiday festivities, sporting events and tournaments, and much more.
  • Ongoing employee development through a variety of in-house training initiatives along with tuition subsidies for courses at outside institutions.

WHAT YOU WILL DO :

  • Operate and set up press brakes, shears, and punches to shape and form metal parts with precision.
  • Optimize machine settings based on material type, thickness, and job requirements to improve efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, and process sheets to ensure components meet exact specifications.
  • Work with advanced measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, protractors) to verify dimensions and tolerances.
  • Identify and troubleshoot fabrication issues such as incorrect bends, material inconsistencies, or tool wear.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to improve processes and solve manufacturing challenges.
  • Take ownership of your work—ensuring first-time quality, maintaining an organized workspace, and proactively solving problems before they impact production.
  • Follow safety procedures and support a culture of continuous improvement.
  • WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESFUL :

  • Advanced experience with press brakes and metal fabrication processes in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of bend allowances, material properties, and machine programming.
  • Experience with Cincinnati Press Brake machines is a strong advantage.
  • Ability to fine-tune setups, adjust machine parameters, and troubleshoot issues quickly.
  • Experience working with aluminum, stainless steel, or heavy-duty vehicle components.
  • A proactive, problem-solving mindset—you don’t just run machines; you optimize them.
  • Commitment to first-time quality and ability to work within tight tolerances.
  • Ability to train or mentor less experienced operators (a plus).
  • OUR WHY :

We exist to move people. Our mission is to design and deliver exceptional transportation solutions that are safe, accessible, efficient and reliable.

NFI Group is a leading independent global bus manufacturer providing a comprehensive suite of mass transportation solutions. News and information are available at , , , , , and .
