Description :
Unity Health Toronto, St. Joeseph's Health Centre site in Toronto invites applications for a full time position for an appropriately qualified Hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) Surgeon to join the Division of General Surgery. St. Joseph's provides care to a culturally and economically diverse population of about 530,000. Our hospital is a 400-bed facility that employs approximately 2,500 staff, along with 400 credentialed staff physicians. The HPB Service provides all aspects surgical and peri-operative care in non-transplant oncologic and benign HPB care to a large referral base in Ontario. The program is a Designated HPB Surgery Centre of Excellence meeting the quality standards of Cancer Care Ontario.
Major responsibilities for the successful candidate include provision of comprehensive advanced HPB clinical care in collaboration with the existing group, and a dedicated commitment to education. The successful candidate will be provided with elective OR time, endoscopy, and clinic time. They will participate in a shared care model of referral intake, OR bookings, and inpatient coverage. The successful candidate will also participate in the HPB call schedule and cover General Surgery call. Training in advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgery are essential.
The Division of General Surgery at St. Joesph's Health Centre is affiliated with the Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto. A commitment and demonstrated interest in surgical education at all levels is essential, as is a dedication to academic excellence and research. The successful applicant must hold a Master's degree or equivalent.
The successful applicant must be proficient in English, have achieved or be eligible for certification in General Surgery by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, as well as licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Formal post-residency training in Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery, Surgical Oncology with specific focus on HPB, or Transplantation with sufficient exposure to benign and oncologic HPB surgery is required. Candidates must have Canadian Medical Protective Association or equivalent liability insurance. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadian citizens and permanent residents will be considered first for this position.
