The Opportunity
The Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) serves as the most senior executive for the District of North Vancouver, responsible for overseeing all aspects of government administration, financial management and human resources functions. Reporting directly to the Mayor and Council, the CAO provides strategic leadership to ensure the effective delivery of municipal programs and services while aligning operations with the District’s long-term vision and priorities. The CAO plays a key role in shaping policy direction, implementing Council decisions and ensuring transparency and accountability in municipal governance. As a member of the Metro Vancouver Regional District, the CAO works closely with other municipalities and plays a leadership role on a number of region-wide committees.
The preferred candidate will bring a demonstrated track record of success in a senior leadership position within a progressive local government or other public sector organization of comparable complexity. Equipped with outstanding leadership skills, the ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the current political landscape, municipal operations and governance, as well as superior interpersonal abilities with a track record of building and sustaining a positive corporate culture through positive relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders including First Nations, municipal partners, and other agencies. This role is ideally suited to municipal leaders with a penchant for innovation and a track record of building organizational resilience.

The current salary range for the position is $295,000-$330,000 (2024 rate), plus benefits and pension. Consideration will be given to the candidate’s background and experience when establishing the final salary.
