Job description

ethree Consulting is proud to partner with the Newfoundland and Labrador Medical Association (NLMA) in their search for a Compensation and Benefits Analyst.

Who We Are

The Newfoundland and Labrador Medical Association (NLMA) is the united voice of physicians across the province. As a member-driven, non-profit organization, we advance the political, clinical, and economic interests of the medical profession while championing a fair, accessible, and equitable health care system for all residents.

We believe that strong advocacy, strategic action, and a deep commitment to equity not only improve the working lives of physicians, but they also directly enhance patient care and health outcomes across the province. Through advocacy, collaboration, and leadership, we help shape the future of health care in Newfoundland and Labrador, ensuring the system evolves to meet the needs of patients, providers, and communities.

Our mission drives us to innovate with those we serve and to build a health system that is accessible, sustainable, and trusted by all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians.

What You’ll Do

Reporting to the Director of Health Policy & Economics, the Analyst manages complex financial and economic analysis. They interpret and model physician compensation data, assess the impacts of proposed changes, support Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) negotiations, and contribute to fee allocation processes and policy development. They coordinate and support several provincial committees, including those related to physician services, fee schedules, audits, and payment structures, ensuring decisions are informed by sound data and aligned with NLMA’s strategic priorities.

The position also responds to physician inquiries regarding compensation and benefits in accordance with the MOA, resolves system-related issues as assigned, and supports committee work through the preparation of meeting notes and minutes.

Success in this role relies on strong analytical capability and the ability to interact with people in an effective, timely, and professional manner. By bringing rigor and insight to compensation systems, the Analyst helps build fair, sustainable remuneration structures that support physicians and contribute to a stronger, more effective health care system for the province.

Responsibilities

  • Negotiation & Agreement Support : Support the development, implementation, and administration of MOAs, agreements, and fee schedules, including risk analysis, issue resolution, liaison with government and legal partners, and documentation of outcomes.
  • Committee Coordination & Stakeholder Engagement : Build and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, committees, and external partners by supporting and participating in provincial committees and working groups, coordinating meetings and materials, communicating complex analysis clearly, providing trusted advice, and responding to inquiries in a professional and timely manner.
  • Continuous Improvement & Quality Assurance : Monitor and evaluate compensation models and related processes to ensure accuracy, sustainability, and continuous improvement.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Commerce (Finance), Public Health, Health Administration, or related field.
  • Minimum 3 – 5 years of experience ideally in health care, or membership-based organizations.

  • Highly organized with excellent time management skills; able to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines independently or as part of a team.
  • Critical thinker and problem solver with initiative; able to anticipate impacts, assess risks, and propose solutions.
  • Knowledge of physician compensation systems, MOAs, fee schedules, and health system policy frameworks; understanding of negotiation processes and strategies considered an asset.
  • Excellent written, oral, and electronic communication skills; able to convey complex information clearly to varied audiences.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, discretion, and integrity in handling confidential or sensitive information.
