Job description

Unit Summary

Juravinski Cancer Centre Clinics, JCC Clinics, Patient Assessment, the Patient Review Clinic and Supportive Care provide services to facilitate the consultation and planning of specialized care, treatment and follow up of patients with cancer. JCC Clinics, Patient Assessment, Review Clinic and Supportive Care support outpatient care within seven large clinics, across all disease sites and treatment modalities, serving around 450 patients daily. The unit includes Primary Nurses, Clinic Clerks, Lobby and Laboratory Reception Clerks, Clinic Health Care Aides, New Patient Referral Clerks and Patient Registration Clerks. There is also interaction with physicians, learners, clinical trials staff, allied health professionals, Customer Support Services and with other Juravinski Hospital staff through treatment and laboratory services. It will also require interactions with community service programs and other facilities within the LHIN.

Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Clinical Manager, JCC Clinics, the Primary Nurse accepts privileges and responsibilities of authority, accountability and autonomy for patient care and professional development. The Primary Nurse will provide patient-centred nursing care for oncology patients (within specific disease sites and across all treatment modalities) and their families based on the values of respect, caring, innovation and accountability. Primary Nurses work with oncologists and with their nursing peers within Disease Site Teams to plan and deliver care as required within the RN scope of practice. Nursing care is provided based upon competencies of direct comprehensive and supportive care, navigating the system, maintaining professional practice, and through collaborative and evidence-based nursing practice. Primary Nurses deliver significant telephone-mediated care

Qualifications

1. Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse
2. Recent two years experience (within the last 5 years) in the care of adult oncology patients in a dedicated oncology setting 3. Current CON(c) certification
4. Successful completion of Registered Nurse Physical Assessment Course, or equivalent
5. Current BCLS certification with ongoing re-certification mandatory
6. Demonstrated interpersonal, communication and patient teaching/counseling skills
7. Demonstrated organizational and critical thinking skills
8. Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively within the interdisciplinary health and support team
9. Experience with primary nursing in an outpatient setting
10. BScN an asset
