Position Overview:
The Winter Operations Manager works as part of a team to deliver superior service and stakeholder satisfaction by ensuring the safe and efficient operations of equipment used in aircraft deicing, glycol recovery, pad valve management, and fluid processing.
Key Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
- Managing all aspects of the daily aircraft de-icing, glycol recovery, pad valve management, and fluid processing operations.
- Provide leadership and coaching to increase overall safety, performance, maintenance, facility requirements and customer service.
- Assist the Station Manager with recruitment, onboarding, training and employee development.
- Maintain up-to-date employee files, including training records and required documentation.
- Assign duties and monitor staff performance to ensure compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and job hazard assessments (JHA’s).
- Monitor weather and operational needs to determine staffing levels and manage scheduling, delegation, and cross-training.
- Support maintenance planning and supervision for all de-icing, recovery and processing equipment.
- Perform and oversee tank inventory, storm preparedness, and valve operations.
- Coordinate snow removal efforts at the facility and ensure necessary supplies and equipment are available.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of Airline operational experience, including de- icing operations.
- Previous supervisors and/or management experience, preferably in a unionized environment.
- Successful completion of IDS’s extensive de-icing training program (classroom and on-the-job).
- Strong leadership and mentoring skills to support staff development and future growth.
- Flexible schedule and willingness to work outside normal hours as needed.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel).
- Excellent communication skills - verbal, written, and interpersonal - with the ability to lead teams, prepare reports, and foster open communication.
Work Environment:
This role involves both operational and office-based duties. While much of the job will be administrative, the Winter Operations Manager will also spend time on the ramp and in the processing plant to ensure operations objectives are met. This position involves exposure to:
- Moving mechanical parts
- Outdoor weather conditions (wet, humid, or cold)
- Fumes, airborne particles and vibration.
- High noise levels at times.
