In compliance with Board policies and procedures, supports and coordinates the work of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy Support Services to provide service to YRDSB schools, staff and the YRDSB community.
The York Region District School Board (YRDSB) supports a flexible working culture and currently provides the opportunity for employees to work from home in addition to working in the office for some positions. The YRDSB implemented Working From Home Guidelines to facilitate this work option. Please note, this does not apply for school based positions.
Major Responsibilities
- To maintain an active knowledge of the Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy Services needs of students in the Board and work collaboratively with the Chief Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy Services to plan and implement department services to meet these needs in accordance with the Board’s Special Education Plan, Multiyear Strategic Plan, and District Plan.
- To support services to schools as described in the position description for Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy Support Services.
- To assist with the allocation school assignments and duties to Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy Services staff members.
- To interview / hire and onboard of new Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy Services staff members with the Chief of Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy.
- To supervise and support existing staff members and mentor Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy Services staff members with issues related providing services within the Board context (i.e. assessment protocols, report preparation, alignment of recommendations with IEP’s, preparation of SEA claims).
- To work collaboratively with other professionals who are involved in the provision of special education services to students within the Board.
- To work collaboratively with other Student Services, Inclusive School and Communities Services, and Curriculum and Instructional Services to support system initiatives / priorities (i.e. EA training, kindergarten initiatives, literacy initiatives, SEA / Technology committee).
- To maintain Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy Services equipment, including entry of new equipment, monitoring assessment, and SEA practices.
- To contribute to the development and review of Board policies and procedures specific to Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy Services as assigned by Coordinating Superintendent of Student Services and Well Being, and the Chief of Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy Services, as well as support the interpretation of these policies / procedures to Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy Services staff members.
- To develop and support with the coordination and delivery of various professional development activities for teachers, support staff, parents and other Board personnel including Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy Services staff members.
- To assist with the development of internal protocols for service delivery as required by the regulatory colleges for Physical and Occupational Therapists of Ontario (i.e., procedures for informed consent).
- To carry out other duties as assigned by the Coordinating Superintendent of Student Services and Well Being, the Principals of Student Services and the Chief of Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy Services.

Important Information For CUPE 1734 Members
LA.11.7 Those twelve (12) month employees filling vacancies as a result of their applying to a job posting are to remain twelve (12) months at their position. Ten (10) month employees are to remain in their position until the end of the school year. This requirement can be waived with permission from the Superintendent responsible for Human Resource Services. This does not prevent employees from applying for a position or from applying for a promotion during the twelve (12) month period.
CUPE 1734 applicants will be considered to have the required educational qualifications based on the job description for the CUPE 1734 classification they currently hold on a permanent basis, in accordance with the terms of the CUPE 1734 Collective Agreement.
As a , an d in accordance with the Education Act, anyone seeking employment or wanting to volunteer must provide a satisfactory police record check. A Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) must be completed by the police services in the jurisdiction in which you reside, this is based on your home address (only accepted by police services within Canada); must be satisfactory to the YRDSB and completed within six (6) months prior to the scheduled start date. It is the candidates responsibility to provide the results to the Board upon instruction.
We will accept satisfactory PVSC’s that name any other school board and other employers (daycare centers, OCT, and employers that would require a police check for vulnerable persons) in Ontario and obtained within the last six (6) months.
