Job description

Responsibilities

:

  • Manage and support the disability claims process for short term, long term and all employee legislatively supported leaves.
  • Evaluate and coordinate workplace accommodation requests in accordance with legislative obligations and internal policies.
  • Work with external stakeholders to facilitate return to work plans assessing restrictions and limitations and operational needs.
  • Maintain confidential files of medical documents and disability updates from third party medical provider.
  • Ensure compliance with the Canada Labour Code, Ontario Human Rights Codes, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and the Canadian Human Rights Act.
  • Perform regular check ins with team members and third party stakeholders to evaluate current claims and status updates.
  • Prepare disability leave and accommodation packages, correspondence and updates to internal as well as external stakeholders.
  • Maintain well organized files and documentation with attention to detail regarding all leaves and accommodations.
  • Coordinate with HRIS to maintain accurate records, payroll adjustments and documentation for leave.
  • Engage with team members with empathy and professionalism to understand personal and medical circumstances as it relates to leaves and accommodations.
  • Collaborate with all departments within the organization to educate, train and communicate on accommodation protocols, disability management procedures and legislative obligations.
  • Support departmental needs as directed by departmental leadership

Skills & Experience:

• Demonstrated ability to maintain confidential information with integrity and professionalism
• Sound interpersonal skills including communication, organization, negotiation, and professional judgement
• Ability to manage multiple competing priorities
• Excellent communication skills to actively listen and discern nonverbal communication cues and to deliver information professionally in difficult circumstances
• Ability to perceive and understand the emotions of others and interact with appropriately based on those emotions.
• Workplace Investigation Training an asset
• Proven ability to think systematically and strategically
• Effective leadership attributes to motivate and develop relationships
• Strong ability to function independently and as a member of a team dealing with multiple priorities in a complex environment.

Education/Experience Desired:

  • University degree, diploma or graduate certificate in related field Human Resources, Human Resource Management or Occupational Health and Safety (Disability Management)
  • Minimum of two years of demonstrated work experience in disability claims management and workplace accommodation, preference in a manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and HRIS
