Job description

The Chateau Nova Peace River is currently recruiting a dynamic and motivated First Cook to join our growing team.

We are looking for an individual who is passionate about food, takes pride in delivering memorable guest experiences, and thrives in a fast paced kitchen environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining high culinary standards while supporting a positive and team focused workplace culture.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all culinary and related kitchen duties while stepping in to assist during high demand service periods
  • Open and close kitchen shifts and ensure assigned duties are completed
  • Ensure all kitchen equipment is clean, maintained, and in good working condition while reporting deficiencies in a timely manner
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness and workplace safety in accordance with hotel standards and occupational health and safety regulations
  • Operate department equipment safely and report malfunctions as required
  • Assist with purchasing appropriate supplies and managing food and inventory levels according to budget expectations
  • Understand and implement hotel safety standards and procedures
  • Ensure all team members follow cleaning schedules and maintain clean and sanitary work areas
  • Communicate areas requiring attention to staff and follow up to ensure completion
  • Participate, as required, in workplace incident or accident investigations
  • Understand and comply with loss prevention policies and procedures
  • Maintain knowledge of kitchen and restaurant operational procedures
  • Demonstrate knowledge of food handling, sanitation requirements, WHMIS, MSDS, WCB, and related safety standards
  • Support food costing initiatives and waste control practices
  • Foster positive relationships with guests and fellow team members

Qualifications & Skills

  • Previous cooking experience in a high volume kitchen environment is preferred
  • Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Positive attitude with the ability to remain professional under pressure
  • Strong problem solving and decision making abilities
  • Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to contribute positively to a team environment
  • Comfortable working in a diverse workplace
  • Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
  • Physically able to stand for extended periods and perform bending, lifting, carrying, and walking duties
