Career Opportunity in Oncology
The Division of Medical Oncology and Haematology is seeking an Associate Physician for the Oncology Survivorship program.
The physician will see patients with a diagnosis of cancer that require routine follow up and monitoring, with guided transition back to primary care providers. The focus of the clinic will primarily be for patients with a history of breast or colorectal cancer with opportunities for expansion to other disease sites in the future. The team is supported by nursing and clerical staff. The expectation will be to conduct 1 to 3 half day out patient survivorship clinics per week. Education is available through exposure in breast and colorectal clinics to build expertise, as well as weekly academic rounds with oncologists. Remuneration includes a base stipend commensurate with clinic hours serviced in addition to billing fee-for-service as set by the OHIP Schedule of Benefits and Fees.
Qualifications
The candidates must have a Certificate of Registration to practice from the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Ontario and have certification in Family Medicine from the College of Family Physicians of Canada or hold Fellowship in a specialty from the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada. The physician should have experience in oncology care. Examples may include : general practitioners in oncology, general practitioners, internists, surgeons or other disciplines. The position requires excellent communication skills in English. Additional languages are considered an asset as we serve a highly diverse population.
About the Program
The Oncology program at Osler is supported by 14 oncologists / hematologists that see over 2,500 new oncology consults annually and care for patients at the Brampton Civic Hospital, Etobicoke General Hospital, and a satellite clinic at Headwaters Health Care Centre. The program is supported by a thrombosis clinic, a nurse practitioner led urgent care clinic, and provides proactive monitoring of patients on systemic therapy through our Oral Anti-Cancer Chemotherapy Program and Osler Cancer Immunotherapy Program. We have a strong collaboration with our palliative care team with Osler being the first community oncology program in Canada that has the ESMO designation of integrated oncology & palliative care program. We are leaders in molecular testing and currently offer in house rapid next generation sequencing. There are numerous unique opportunities for physicians in the Osler oncology program including a robust research program, opportunities for quality improvement projects, and medical education.
