Job description

Summary of responsibilities

The Substance Use Day/Evening Treatment program is a structured, non-residential day treatment service for individuals experiencing substance use challenges, offering scheduled daytime support. It provides both individual and group programming, including evidence-informed counselling, psychoeducational sessions, peer support, and relapse prevention planning. The program also incorporates clinical support, case management, and coordination with community resources to address a range of health and social needs.

Requirements of the job

• Holds current Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario
• Three years’ experience in a mental health setting
• 2 years’ experience in a mobile crisis service
• Current Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support
• Current certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public and co-workers
• Ability and knowledge on how to use Microsoft Windows, Word, CERNER, email and the internet
• Ability as a competent practitioner in mental health crisis response
• Excellent interpersonal/communication skills (oral and written) and organizational/teaching skills
• Solid understanding of substance use health
• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment
• Motivated and able to practice independently
• Demonstrated knowledge of best practices within the defined population
• Experience in working in the community
• Able to work in partnership with the police, crisis lines and community agencies and considerable knowledge of available government, community and private programs and resources
• Valid driver's license
• Demonstrated commitment to patient safety
• Demonstrated regular, punctual attendance
• Functional level in both official languages (oral and written in English; oral and written in French – and testing completed)
