Job Description

The successful incumbent will work under the direction of physicians and in collaboration with other members of the health care team; provide care to clients with orthopaedic problems through the application, adjustment and removal of a variety of casts, splints and traction fittings; perform casting services primarily in the Fracture Clinic setting; dressing removal, removal sutures, staples and pins related to external fixation; cast application (including specialized casts, fracture braces using plaster or synthetic materials; measures and fit patients for othopaedic devices and ambulatory aids; instruction of patients regarding care and proper use of appliances; assist in the application, maintenance and adjustment of traction including patient education; fabricate and apply splints and bandages; instruction of Patient/family in the care of the cast, slab or brace; order and maintain equipment and orthopaedic supplies; collaborate with other health care professionals such as physicians, nurses, physiotherapists and occupational therapists as required; interact with other departments to obtain the resources needed to assist in patient care.

Qualifications

High School graduate or equivalent
Graduate from a recognized Orthopaedic Technologist Programme sanctioned by the or equivalent training and experience.
Basic understanding of anatomy
Ability to apply and remove all types of casts, splints and orthopaedic devices
Understanding of theory and application skin and skeletal traction
Understanding of the proper application of aseptic technique in dressing change, pin and suture removal, setting up of surgical fields
Previous experience in Meditech Expanse preferably with Client Server platform, Order Entry and Electronic Medical Record applications
Satisfactory employment and attendance record

Additional Information

Hours: Monday to Thursday- Various rotating hours shifts between 0700-1700 (hours subject to change based on operational needs)
