Position Purpose Summary :

The position is to provide case management and group facilitation to the residents / neighbours of the Sarah’s Place Women’s Transitional Housing & Healing program.

Drawing on both personal lived experience and professional training is key for the position.

This is a permanent part-time position at 30 hours per week. There will be 4 day shifts a week, with 1 shift preferably a weekend day.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Plan, manage and facilitate 1-2 groups per week on such topics as Life-Skills; Indigenous Teaching and Culture. Oversees the development of the Life Skills & Events calendar.
  • Case-manage up to 12 residents / neighbours.
  • Receives, tracks and processes files and prospective applications.
  • Meets with residents, provides emotional support and advocacy as required;
  • Guides residents in setting and updating goals
  • Preparing safety plans;
  • Supports residents in the community when necessary.
  • Liaise with police, court personnel, community agencies, families, and other staff members.
  • Assist with room inspections & general processes of community living.
  • Submit receipts and keeping track of those expenses and submitting receipts as required.
  • Positively represent The Salvation Army Correctional and Justice Services
  • Bring any concerns directly to Sarah’s Place Supervisor, Executive Director or designate and CJS Team.
  • Demonstrate mutual dignity and respect to all.
  • Work with and contribute to a positive and professional team environment.
  • Read, know, understand and execute the standards, policies, procedures and responsibilities of the programs as outlined in the programs policies and procedures.
  • Comply with all Salvation Army operating guidelines, minutes and directives.
  • Participate in ongoing program development, evaluation and updating, based on participant needs, research, funding opportunities and community feedback.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings, staff development / training programs and related conferences, seminars and / or courses upon the approval / consent of the Supervisor and Executive Director.
  • Maintain confidentiality in regards to all clients, program files / materials, staff and departmental records / business.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS :

E ducation and Qualifications

  • Completed a minimum of two years post-secondary education in the human services field or equivalent of specialized courses related to the position or
  • One to three years of prior related experience working with issues of exploitation, complex trauma, human trafficking, homelessness, mental health, unemployment, abuse, and addiction.
  • Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements

  • Three to five years of work experience recommended in client / customer relations
  • One to three years of prior related experience working with issues of exploitation, complex trauma, human trafficking, homelessness, mental health, unemployment, abuse, and addiction.
  • Expertise in the areas of substance use and exploitation
  • Criminal police record Check
  • Clear provincial child / youth and vulnerable adult checks
  • Clear screening through the Salvation Army abuse registry
  • Current mental health first aid training
  • Training on trauma informed care
  • Emergency first aid
  • Non violent crisis intervention
  • Training in professional boundaries
  • Assist Suicide Intervention Training
  • PREFERRED SKILLS / CAPABILITIES :

    Skills and Attributes :

  • Background and understanding of indigenous teachings & culture preferred.
  • Mature, caring person who demonstrates positive regard for all people.
  • Ability to have a flexible schedule.
  • Excellent listening, communication and reasoning skills.
  • Highly motivated and goal oriented with the ability to plan, organize and implement multiple events with efficiency and attention to detail with team support.
  • Ability to interact professionally with participants, community agencies, criminal justice and law enforcement personnel.
  • Understanding of the difficulties of exiting the sex trade – having experiential involvement in the sex trade is a significant asset along with having been exited five+ years.
  • Computer skills – knowledge of Microsoft office applications.
  • Maintains appropriate boundaries, confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
  • PHYSICAL EFFORT / DEXTERITY REQUIRED : The performance of the job requires a moderate amount of keyboarding / manual record keeping, and lifting.
  • CONCENTRATION REQUIRED : The performance of the job requires attentive listening and observation of body language, continuously monitoring the environment, multitasking, and reading.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS : Working environment is typically in an office and program department on the floor of the program / facility. The work is generally under agreeable conditions with the following exceptions :

  • Dealing with angry and otherwise difficult emotions of people
  • Verbal abuse
  • The performance of the job requires the ability to switch focus on tasks between data / record keeping; connecting with people via email, phone and in person meetings with participants throughout the day.
  • The clientele served by the programs often relate information that is highly disturbing in nature and will require intentional professional debrief and consultation.
  • Exposures to Hazards : the job can involve exposure to the risk of minor to moderate injury or illnesses due to :
  • Physical attacks by others
  • Exposure to infectious diseases
  • Exposure to bodily fluids
  • Sharp objects
  • Other dangerous situations
