JOB DESCRIPTION :
The School Psychologist is a member of District Staff in a position of special responsibility, working under the direction of the Director of Instruction, Learner Support or designate. The responsibilities include :
- Providing collaborative consultation in classrooms and at school-based team meetings.
- Planning collaboratively for students and classrooms, and consulting on pre-referral interventions.
- Conducting educational assessments, potentially using Level C testing instruments, for students referred through the school-based team process.
- Contributing to the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) as appropriate and necessary.
- Providing in-service training on interventions, progress monitoring, data collection, and assessment.
- Consulting with the Director of Learner Support regarding Ministry of Education processes for designation and adjudication.
- Collaborating with teachers, support staff, parents, students, and community agencies (e.g., MCFD, regional health authorities, Community Living BC, Child and Youth Mental Health) to discuss student strengths, needs, assessment implications, and interventions to enhance learning and interpersonal relations.
- Working with school-based and district personnel to gather classroom data, design or implement instructional and behavioral interventions.
- Assisting staff in providing additional in-service training (e.g., behavior management, observational techniques, data gathering, PBS, RTI) and participating in program evaluation or research activities.
- Performing other duties as assigned by the Director of Instruction, Learner Support, or designate.
This is a district-wide position with responsibilities across schools and staff. The work hours will align with secondary teachers, with a flexible schedule based on daily and weekly plans, mutually agreed upon. An allowance will be provided per Article B.27, and the position requires adherence to the BCTF Code of Ethics.
