Job description

We are seeking a Head of Merchandising, CPG Canada to join our growing team. This role is responsible for delighting our expanding customer base by launching and growing the CPG product assortment—including Health & Wellness, Beauty, Fragrance, and Food & Beverage—for the Canadian market. Our organization believes that everyone deserves access to high-quality products at truly affordable prices. We also recognize that the consumer marketplace can be overwhelming, with too many options and unclear quality, while customers often pay more for items that could be delivered at lower prices. Our goal is to identify the best products in the marketplace and connect the makers of these goods directly with the customers who value them.

The organization has already proven its consumer value proposition and built a loyal, repeat customer base. We aim to build on this momentum and continue scaling both existing and new product categories. The merchant leading CPG will be responsible for managing assortment, revenue, and margins, as well as driving the overall growth trajectory of this product category. The organization’s growth and success are directly tied to the performance and impact of this role. The person in this role will be an innovator at heart, leveraging their expertise to build and execute the strategy for emerging categories.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own all end-to-end merchandising for CPG in Canada, including category strategy, assortment, launches, and performance
  • Category-expert, sets long-term localized strategy with support; may build local department from the ground up, leveraging larger catalogue, with oversight
  • Determine, own, and execute all regulatory requirements required to bring products to market in Canada
  • Partner with Marketing to develop and lead the go-to-market strategy and execution for CPG departments in Canada
  • Partner with Supply Chain and Sourcing to maximize margin for the category in Canada
  • Analyze data to drive decision-making, including sales velocity, margin, return rate, etc.
  • Collaborate with key regional cross-functional partners, particularly Supply Chain, Planning, and Marketing, to ensure we are launching products that meet our local requirements, are maintaining in-stock position, and are driving traffic to key products
  • Leverage data for ratings, reviews, and return rates, participate and spearhead quality improvements for any products in the assortment with improvement opportunities
  • Assist in onboarding additional best-in-class vendors to the Quince model to expand sourcebase where relevant locally and required
  • Continuously identify whitespace in the assortment and contribute to broader Quince product roadmap based on new information and learnings

Build site merchandising strategy, including PDP improvements roadmap and top nav and filter optimizations

Key Qualifications

  • The role is based in Toronto, with 4 days per week (Monday-Thursday) in office requirement.
  • 8-10 years of experience in CPG categories, consumables preferred (Food & Beverage, Health & Wellness), with demonstrated ownership of category performance
  • E-commerce experience and / or DTC experience preferred
  • Proven track record of progressing within an organization and demonstrating continuous growth in roles and responsibilities
  • Product-obsessed with experience in leveraging data tools and external sources
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and execution-focused, with a demonstrated ability for building scalable processes and driving cross-functional alignment
  • Continuous learner and highly curious; always open to considering new perspectives; proactive when changing course and facing added challenges
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Motivated by working in a fast-paced collaborative environment, where flexibility to stretch into or out of functional comfort zones is crucial for team success
