OVERVIEW
The Child & Youth Worker (CYW) in the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Inpatient Service works with the interdisciplinary team to provide behavioural counselling, support, assessment and safety plans for patients, families and/or support networks. They work in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team in planning, implementation and evaluation of treatment care and transition plans. The CYW also provides coverage to the Child and Youth Outpatient Mental Health Programs, based on operational needs.
EDUCATION
- Child Youth Worker diploma required; Baccalaureate Degree in Child and Youth Work (preferred).
QUALIFICATIONS
- 1-2 years recent experience with children and youth who are experiencing a mental health issue. Preference given to experience in an acute care child and youth mental health setting.
- Ability to provide individual, and group support.
- Experience with mental illness and high-risk children and adolescents.
- Demonstrated ability to assess children and youth in crisis.
- Experience with behavioural programming for children and youth.
- Demonstrated excellence in problem solving techniques, conflict resolution, and flexibility.
- Co-operative relations within an interdisciplinary team.
- Ability to communicate effectively to a diverse group.
- Knowledge of Community Resources for Child and Adolescent mental health.
- Demonstrated interest in continuing education.
- Good work and attendance required.
- Excellent written skill required.
