POSITION SUMMARY
The Eating Disorder’s Day Treatment program is seeking a Child and Youth Counsellor (CYC). The incumbent will work with adolescents with complex eating disorders and other mental health issues, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, families, and community agencies to support their understanding of their illness, develop independence, and enhance coping skills through group and individual therapies.

The CYC will provide evaluation, assessment, and therapeutic interventions using a strength-based, evidence-based approach, incorporating modern mental health techniques and Child and Youth Counseling principles in a psychiatric setting. Responsibilities include fostering a safe and trusting environment, working as part of an interprofessional team, conducting safety assessments, managing behavioral crises, providing meal support, and delivering life skills training. Flexibility, creativity, and strong therapeutic boundaries are essential.
Qualifications Required
- Child and Youth Worker Diploma
- OACYC membership in good standing
- Certification in First Aid and CPR (Level HCP)
- Experience with adolescents with developmental, physical, and emotional disturbances
- Preferred : experience with eating disorders, CBT, and / or DBT
- Knowledge of psychiatric disorders such as OCD and PTSD
- Understanding of relevant legislation (Mental Health Act, PHIPA)
- Proficiency with computers and Meditech (preferred)
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to perform physical demands of the role
Note : Some travel may be required. This position is part of the OPSEU Bargaining Unit. The job posting closes on July 7th, 2025. This is a 1-year contract.
