Position profile – Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) – Saskatoon and University Saskatchewan, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, seek a Transfusion Medicine Specialist, with 0.5 FTE available in this position.
A part-time role in another discipline of laboratory medicine or a clinical specialty may be potential options, depending on the training of the applicant.
Compensation Details – competitive independent contract – Step 1 : $347, 118

Faculty of the Division of Transfusion Medicine are based at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, with roles including laboratory based medical leadership and consultative services. In Saskatoon, the TM Physician team function as medical directors of three hospital-based Transfusion Medicine (TM) laboratories, including a provincial reference laboratory performing complex immunohematology testing and cellular therapy activities; and provide consultative services focused on pre-transfusion test appropriateness, blood component / product stewardship, transfusion safety, and inventory management. On-call clinical and TM lab consultation services also extend throughout Northern Saskatchewan. TM Physicians work collaboratively with colleagues in the Division of Hematopathology, specifically including the core and special coagulation laboratories. Teaching and mentorship of learners is an expectation, with a particular focus on trainees completing focused TM education in the Clinical and Diagnostic Pathology Residency Program. Local and national collaborative research opportunities are available.
Qualifications / Requirements of the position – Candidates in consideration must hold certification or eligibility for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in a lab discipline (e.g. General Pathology, Hematopathology) or medical specialty (e.g. Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Anesthesia) with specific fellowship training in Transfusion Medicine, or a suitable combination of education and experience. In addition, candidates must be eligible for licensing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan.
