Description
This position uses a variety of standard problem-solving techniques while handling assignments of limited scope and complexity. The position is responsible for applying technical knowledge of engineering principles and practices, and to coordinate between the Construction Management Team and home office Electrical Engineering. The position assists more senior engineers in carrying out technical solutions to construction problems. Construction Electrical Engineer / Engineer-in-Training may give limited technical guidance to the construction team. Day-to-day activities vary depending on the timing and complexity of the project.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee the construction of the Electrical, Control and Instrumentation aspects of the central Processing Facility.
- Oversee the calibration, testing, troubleshooting of electrical and instrumentation equipment on oil and gas and related process equipment,
- Oversee and provide guidance on troubleshooting of electrical, instrumentation and process control equipment,
- Interface with Head Office Electrical Engineering and Site Field Engineers.
- Understand LOTO and follow all specified safety practices,
- Working knowledge in Permit to Work System, Job Safety Analysis, Risk Assessment, and confined space systems,
- Able to understand advanced systems such as Switchgear, MCC’s, VFD’s, DCS Panels, SIS Panels, compressor panels, RTU’s, Analyzers, BMS, Line heaters, and production facility equipment
- Knowledge of Gas Detection, LEL Detection and Fire Detection controllers and sensors.
- Interpret and use appropriate NEC, CSA, ISA, ABSA, and API installation standards and practices
- Provide site technical engineering support (drawing issues, RFIs, NCRs, etc.) First point of contact for site questions Discuss, coordinate, expedite and log with home office engineering as required Maintain RFI log Coordinate with field on MOC activities as required Coordinate DCN’s for field required updates Support site document control as required Provide site updates to home office project team as required (inquiries, progress, photos, etc.) Generate a photo record of construction progress, final installations, issues that arise, and commissioning activities Ensure proper as-builts are completed (electrical, P&ID, controls, etc.). Documentation (such as photos) may be required to ensure engineer is able to stamp as-builts Maintain set of as-built P&ID’s Maintain local copy of 3D model
- Maintain Field Engineer Action Log (FEAL) Master log created to track field activities, home office assignments and due dates Maintain log and coordinate meetings as required to resolve action items
- Coordinate NCR remediation Main point of contact for NCR requiring engineering review Coordinate home office engineering for NCR resolution
- Coordinate pre-commissioning activities Coordinate pre-commissioning (EIFAT / SFAT) with Automation, construction, commissioning and client representatives to maintain completion dates Maintain deficiency list to include deficiencies identified in EIFAT and SFAT Assemble and file handover documentation for pre-commissioning
- Coordinate electrical completion & handover, including system walkdowns Monitor construction schedule to ensure readiness for handover Conduct internal walkdowns (electrical) including P&ID yellow off, field installed electrical and instrumentation. Coordinate with construction crews (electrical) to close out punch list items Close deficiencies identified prior to client walkdown Coordinate (CSU and Operations) walkdowns to identify, track and close deficiencies. Catalogue and categorize deficiencies (including EIFAT and SFAT items) Coordinate with construction crews (electrical) to complete deficiency list items Coordinate procurement for material required to close deficiencies Prepare system turnover packages (handover docs, signed off deficiency list, marked up as-built P&ID’s) Coordinate and sign off final handover documentation
- Maintain Lessons Learned log What worked, what didn’t work, things to retain or to improve for future projects
- Keep home office appraised of progress at site (attend weekly meeting or additional teleconferences as required)
- Attend site construction safety review meetings (morning tailgate, rotational safety meetings, etc.)
- Attend daily construction coordination meeting
- Issue weekly progress report (Progress Tracking Sheet)
- Provide support for site material management and coordinating shipping when required
