Job description

We’ve opened a role in any of our offices for a talented, entrepreneurial Specification Writer to work alongside exceptional people in JLR’s Project Delivery group.

Pop Quiz:

  • Are you a resourceful, dynamic and skilled design professional with 10 years of experience in the construction, architectural or engineering industry?
  • Do you have strong knowledge of specification writing, contract administration, and architectural or engineering design?
  • Are you a technical thought leader ready to manage and standardize specifications, with strong working knowledge of National Master Specification (NMS) and who has obtained or is working towards obtaining your Registered Specification Writer or Certified Specification Practitioner credentials?
  • Does working with an experienced team in a multidisciplinary environment to contribute to the success of corporate business development initiatives excite you?

If you scored four for four, JLR has a home for you as a Specification Writer! You’ll be supported by a Platinum Club member of Canada’s Best Managed Companies program, firm that has a long-established reputation for quality services in multiple sectors, while you take on existing clients, develop new relationships, and deliver world-class, innovative solutions that support community building and growth in our cities.

JLR is a creative, tight-knit, and mentorship-focused community with unique opportunities for driven people with tenacity and spirit. Our organization is made up of diverse employee owners with specialized expertise in a wide range of disciplines. Joining the JLR team means joining a dynamic group of innovative architecture, engineering, and planning professionals and support staff. You’ll have the opportunity to help establish new clients and partner with existing ones to develop insightful solutions and see projects through from inception to completion.

If you’re innovative and collaborative, thrive when presented with new challenges, and are eager to take your career in new directions, then JLR is the right environment for you.

Your Role as a Specification Writer:

Choose your own adventure! Let’s talk about how your skills, experience, goals, and passions can find a home at JLR. As the Specification Writer, your role will include:

  • Writing and editing specifications for projects and coordinating compliance with project requirements, institutional guidelines, JLR standards, technical conditions, acceptable standards, and existing laws, contracts, regulations, and codes.
  • Translating project design requirements into materials, methods, equipment, procedures, and installations necessary to provide the narrative descriptions.
  • Developing and updating JLR’s Master Specifications and National Master Specification (NMS) to ensure that they meet industry best practices and lessons learned.
  • Working alongside other senior design professionals to prepare specifications for a variety of complex projects and building types that include education, healthcare, science and technology, commercial, industrial, mining and interior design initiatives.
  • Implementing digital specification tools to streamline the production of project specifications.
  • Developing tips and best practices that can be shared with project teams to improve specifications.
