Job Description

De Beers Group is seeking a skilled and motivated HVAC Artisan to join our Site Services Department at the Gahcho Kué Mine. This role will focus on the safe maintenance and repair of HVAC and refrigeration systems, while ensuring compliance with all relevant Canadian Halocarbon regulations. Reporting to the Site Services Supervisor, the HVAC Artisan will support a variety of site services, including compliance with environmental regulations. Key responsibilities :

  • Collaborate with the team to conduct job risk assessments and create safe work plans.
  • Report all incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions to the Supervisor.
  • Install, troubleshoot, repair, and overhaul HVAC and refrigeration systems including commercial chillers, cooling towers, A / C systems, make-up air units (MUAs), rooftop units (RTUs), and hydronic equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as recharging refrigerant, testing regulators, and calibrating systems.
  • Diagnose system faults and perform necessary repairs, ensuring that all work is compliant with Canadian Halocarbon regulations.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, designs, and technical specifications to execute repair work.
  • Ensure detailed and accurate documentation of maintenance activities, including halocarbon-related paperwork, as required by federal and provincial environmental regulations.
  • Stay up-to-date on changes in technology, compliance standards, and HVAC repair techniques.
  • Participate in safety programs, toolbox talks, and comply with site safety standards.
  • Reporting to the Site Services Supervisor, the role resides within the Site Services department.

    Qualifications

  • Certified Journeyman or Red Seal in HVAC, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of HVAC systems and refrigerant handling, in compliance with Canadian Halocarbon regulations.
  • Familiarity with make-up air units (MUAs) and automation systems used for HVAC diagnostics.
  • Ability to adhere to environmental regulations, including managing halocarbon emissions and ensuring proper maintenance of refrigeration and air conditioning systems.
  • Experience diagnosing and repairing commercial HVAC and refrigeration systems.
  • Accountable for maintaining accurate halocarbon records in accordance with federal and provincial regulations (e.g., Environmental Code of Practice for Elimination of Fluorocarbon Emissions).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team, with strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Preferred :

  • Experience with kitchen equipment and oil burner repairs.
  • Additional trade certifications (e.g., Millwright, Power Engineer).
  • Experience in air balancing and ventilation system adjustments.
  • Preference will be given to Members of the Deninu Kué, Lutsel K’e Dene First Nation, North Slave Métis Alliance, Northwest Territory Métis Nation, Tlicho Government, or Yellowknives Dene First Nation, followed by non-indigenous residents of the Northwest Territories;
  • A resident of the Northwest Territories.
