Quality Control Technician-Premix

OVERVIEW
The Quality Control Technician works closely with management and production staff to test products and raw materials to produce reports and ensure product quality. The Quality Control Technician enters all test results into a QC database and reports all non-conformances to management. The Quality Control Technician also tests new and existing products under the guidance of the Technical Services Manager. This is a new role that supports the new Stubbe’s Premix division and existing Stubbe’s Cement Division from the new Woodstock Plant.
THE DAY TO DAY
- Sample, inspect, and test concrete, mortar, grout and raw materials at Premix plant in Woodstock
- Sample, inspect, and test cement and other bulk powders for the Cement division
- Conduct Research & Development testing on new and existing materials/products as assigned by the Technical Services Manager
- Report product non-conformances to the Technical Services Manager and Supervisors
- Complete cleaning and maintenance of lab equipment as required
- Maintain daily records of all data
- Communicate with production staff to ensure products are tested as required
- Develop technical reports and analysis of product quality
- Follow all necessary health & safety directives in accordance with legislative requirements
- Work with managers to conduct product specification reviews and mix design reviews
- Communicate and train quality processes and procedures to new employees
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement
- Analyze data and provide well supported and applicable recommendations for action
- Provide ongoing mentorship and guidance to students
- Ensure CSA/ASTM/CCRL compliance: reviews and monitors compliance with CSA/ASTM/CCRL standards
- Assist Managers and Supervisors with various tasks
- Perform all other duties required by management
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
An effective Quality Control Technician at Stubbe’s must have:
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to detail in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Safety oriented
- Strong analytical skills
- Computer skills
- Understanding and reading of specifications and standard operating procedures is essential
- Knowledge of concrete or mortar mix designs and sieve analysis an asset
- Familiarity with CSA and ASTM equivalent standards is an asset
