Contributes to the overall success of the Transaction Services Canadian Banking Engineering team, ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

If you are an experienced Lead Engineer with a strong developer-focused mindset, keen interest in payments and retail payments core banking, and thrive in a fast-moving environment - this is the position for you!

Is this role right for you? In this role you will:

  • Prepare solution designs and estimates deliverables according to Scotiabank's internal policies, standards and templates based on business, project and systems specs
  • Produce and maintain architectural and design documentations
  • Maintain high standards of software quality within the team by establishing good practices and habits
  • Collaborate with other software developers, business analysts and software architects to plan, design, develop, test, and maintain different applications
  • Innovative approach to developing process improvements and solutions
  • Design, develop, and unit test applications in accordance with established standards
  • Interact with stakeholders to collaborate, align and resolve issues
  • Lead the team with a continuous improvement mindset, actively promote inclusivity and trust, promote an environment of curiosity and experimentation
  • Guide the team in adopting new ways of working, exploring enhancement in ways that align with the Bank’s strategic priorities while enabling the Agile mindset/framework
  • Off hours work is required to support delivery and deployment activities, as well for production support/issues when the team gets paged
  • Act with urgency and criticality, evaluate problems blockers and bottlenecks, identify actions to be taken, assist the team to recommend/implement solutions

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We’d love to work with you if you have:

  • Undergraduate Degree in Computer Science or technical equivalent
  • Full Stack developer with 5+ years of progressive experience working in the IT industry
  • 5+ years architecture experience in creating and managing enterprise architectures and solutions
  • Expert level experience in the following technologies: Cobol, JCL, DB2, IMS DB/DC, VSAM, SAS, CICS, CA7, Bitbucket
  • Experience in the financial industry with mainframe/host development
  • Experience with retails transaction process and card access controls
  • Working experience with systems development methodologies and software development technologies, concepts and lifecycle
  • Current on industry best practice and secure coding
  • Worked in Agile framework
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills coupled with strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills
  • Time management skills with the ability to handle multiple assignments
  • Flexibility and adaptability with an eagerness to enhance and improve
  • Positive attitude with a strong commitment to Team
