Job Summary
The Dietary Aide is accountable for the final preparation and service of safe, nutritious and attractive meals to patients. Dietary Aides in Hospital are responsible for portioning, building, delivery and retrieval of trays. Stripping trays and ware-washing dishes, sanitizing carts and patient dining rooms. Supply requisitions for daily stock & med room supplies are completed according to standards. Dietary Aides complete food production as required following standardized recipes and dietary guidelines set by the Food Service Department and Public Health.
Key Accountabilities
· Final preparation and service of food to patients following appropriate diets and guidelines.
· Set up and clean up of trays in dining spaces and patient rooms
· Ensure food is brought to or maintained at appropriate temperatures.
· Ware-washing duties and sanitizing carts after meal times.
· Assemble and portion menu items for the patient meals and snacks as per daily production and advance requirements.
· Ensures proper quality, quantity and consistency through proper handling of pre-prepared foods and following standardized recipes.
· Follow first in/ first out rule with stocking items.
· Following proper procedures and guidelines for sanitation, food safety and departmental policies to meet Quality Assurance standards.
· Follows proper operating and cleaning procedures for work area.
· Participates in department Quality Assurance Program.
· Complies with patient safety programs, and processes including identifying and reporting adverse events/near misses.
· Attends and participates in appropriate safety training or education updates (ie. hand hygiene, emergency code reviews).
· Identifies unsafe conditions or practices and takes appropriate action to address them including reporting or removing hazards.
· The Dietary Aide maintains Quality Assurance Standards in their areas. Position interfaces strongly with patients, ware-washers, nursing staff, family/ visitors and Food Service Supervisors
Qualifications & Experience
- Food Service Worker (FSW) training program completed by Ontario Colleges of Applied Arts & Technology or equivalent as stated in the MOLTC Act.
- Food Handler’s Certificate
· Related experience in food service environment is an asset.
· Flexible in ability to organize daily work schedule.
· Ability to work independently.
· Ability to operate related equipment.
· Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
· Ability to deal with others as a part of an interdisciplinary team.
· Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
· Ability to work in a time pressured, fast paced environment throughout the day.
