Job Description

Job Summary

Produce accurate verbatim and medical transcriptions from recorded or live proceedings and prepare clear, formatted documents for legal and medical records. Maintain strict confidentiality while meeting turnaround times and quality standards.

Main Duties

  • Transcribe verbatim court proceedings, hearings, depositions and other legal recordings using stenotype or transcription software.
  • Transcribe medical dictations, operative reports, discharge summaries and other clinical audio into accurate, formatted documents.
  • Proofread, edit and format transcripts to ensure correct grammar, punctuation, time-stamping and adherence to style guidelines.
  • Manage, organize and maintain audio files, exhibits and related digital records and indices.
  • Communicate with legal or medical professionals to clarify terminology, resolve discrepancies and obtain missing information.
  • Ensure confidentiality of sensitive information and perform quality assurance checks to meet deadlines and accuracy targets.

Requirements

  • Postsecondary certificate, diploma or equivalent training in court reporting, transcription or medical transcription, or related practical experience.
  • Demonstrated experience producing legal or medical transcripts with a high level of accuracy.
  • Proficiency with stenotype machines or voice-recognition and transcription software and strong keyboarding skills.
  • Working knowledge of legal and medical terminology, grammar, punctuation and document formatting standards.
  • Strong attention to detail, proofreading skills and ability to safeguard confidential information.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple assignments, work to deadlines and adapt to varying audio quality and speaker accents.
