Located in downtown Toronto, the largest and most culturally diverse city in Canada and on the territory of the Anishinaabeg, Haudenosaunee and the Wendat Peoples, the Midwifery Education Program in the Faculty of Community Services at Toronto Metropolitan University [www.torontomu.ca] (formerly Ryerson University) invites applications for two (2) 0.5 FTE Limited Term Faculty positions at the rank of Assistant Professor effective August 1, 2025 , each for a two-year term subject to final budgetary approval. Successful candidates will engage only in the teaching and service duties of faculty members in the Midwifery Education Program, while maintaining an inclusive, equitable, and collegial work environment across all activities. The candidates will contribute to our undergraduate (BHSc) program through teaching, mentoring and supervision of students to facilitate junior scholars and diversity in the field.
Candidates will be hired at 0.5 FTE, taking into account the need to maintain currency in clinical midwifery. The teaching workload for LTF appointments at TMU is normally 6 courses per academic year, and successful candidates will have a prorated teaching workload of 3 courses for each academic year (0.5 FTE) as well as service responsibilities. Teaching and service work will involve regular in-person teaching and other activities on the TMU campus.
Candidates must hold a master’s degree in a field relevant to midwifery by the appointment date.
In addition, candidates must present evidence of :
- being a Registered or Indigenous Midwife in Canada;
- at least 5 years (full-time equivalent) of clinical midwifery experience, including antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum care;
- being in current practice in Ontario or plan to practice in Ontario;
- understanding of midwifery education in Ontario;
- understanding of the context and scope of practice of midwifery in Ontario;
- demonstrated commitment to social justice and reproductive justice;
- record of service to vulnerable communities, community organizations, or health-related committees (such as the Association of Ontario Midwives and / or the National Council of Indigenous Midwives);
- demonstrated capacity for teaching excellence at all levels of the undergraduate curriculum, as evidenced by a teaching dossier that includes a teaching philosophy statement, experience with course administration, and curriculum review and / or development, examples of best practices in pedagogy, including effective use of classroom technology and any experience with experiential learning, sample syllabi, strong teaching evaluations, teaching awards, and other relevant achievements in teaching;
- demonstrated commitment to our values of equity, diversity, and inclusion as it pertains to teaching and service activities, including a demonstrated ability to make learning accessible and inclusive for a diverse student population; and
- an ability and willingness to contribute to the life of the Midwifery Education Program and the University through collegial service.

Note : Limited Term Faculty appointments at Toronto Metropolitan University may not exceed a combined total of four years. Applicants with prior Toronto Metropolitan LTF appointments need to consider this limitation, as it may render them ineligible to apply.
