Job description

ServiceNow Software Asset Management (SAM) Specialist

We’re currently seeking an experienced ServiceNow Software Asset Management (SAM) Specialist to support our client, a major Canadian insurance organization, in implementing and operationalizing the ServiceNow SAM module as part of their enterprise IT modernization initiative. This engagement focuses on leading configuration, integration, and deployment activities to strengthen the client’s IT Asset Management (ITAM) maturity.

LOCATION & DURATION

  • Location : Remote (occasional on-site work as required, aligned with Saskatchewan [CST] business hours)
  • Start Date : December 1, 2025
  • Duration : 6 months, with potential for extension
  • Department : Administration Services

As a ServiceNow SAM Specialist, you will lead the implementation and configuration of the ServiceNow Software Asset Management module (SAM), ensuring seamless integration with existing CMDB, discovery, and procurement systems. You will collaborate with internal stakeholders to define requirements, establish governance processes, and enable automated workflows for software lifecycle management and license compliance. This role requires a hands‑on expert with a strong understanding of ITAM / SAM best practices, ServiceNow architecture, and discovery tools such as SCCM and Intune.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead end-to-end implementation of the ServiceNow SAM module, including configuration, deployment, and integration with discovery tools and CMDB.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define requirements, data models, and reporting needs for effective software asset management.
  • Configure and operationalize vendor-specific modules (Microsoft, Oracle, SUSE, Red Hat, etc.) for license tracking and compliance.
  • Establish workflows for software discovery, normalization, reconciliation, and reclamation.
  • Implement KPIs, dashboards, and automated alerts to enhance visibility into license utilization and compliance.
  • Provide knowledge transfer and training to internal teams for sustainable support and governance.
  • Ensure alignment with ITAM policies, audit controls, and organizational objectives.
  • Deliver post‑go‑live support and documentation, including process maps and operational playbooks.
  • REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Proven experience implementing and configuring ServiceNow SAM in enterprise environments.
  • Strong understanding of ITAM and SAM principles, software discovery, normalization, and reconciliation.
  • Experience integrating ServiceNow with SCCM, Intune, and other discovery tools.
  • Working knowledge of ServiceNow Discovery, Software Model Library (SML), and Normalization Data Services (NDS).
  • Experience managing SaaS licenses and integrations for usage visibility and entitlement tracking.
  • Familiarity with license models (per‑user, per‑device, concurrent, subscription).
  • Ability to integrate SAM with other ServiceNow modules and external procurement systems.
  • Excellent analytical, documentation, and communication skills.
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • ServiceNow Certified Implementation Specialist – SAM or ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA).
  • Experience leading knowledge‑transfer initiatives and developing training materials.
  • Strong understanding of software compliance, optimization, and audit readiness.
  • ABOUT THE ROLE

This is a 6‑month remote engagement with an opportunity for extension. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in enabling software governance and optimization across one of Canada’s leading insurance providers. Your work will directly contribute to improved compliance, reduced audit risk, and optimized software spending across the organization.
