Job description

What you’ll do:

The Meat Clerk is responsible for delivering outstanding customer service; wrapping, packaging and pricing cuts of meat, poultry and seafood; merchandising and displaying packaged meat; making hamburger patties and ground beef and maintaining department cleanliness and housekeeping standards. This position requires staff to work in a cool, damp environment and handle raw meat.

The Meat Clerk will live the Co-op Brand and strive to achieve and maintain positive and healthy relationships with co-workers and customers.

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Living the Brand

The Meat Clerk will consistently represent and uphold the Co‑op brand by demonstrating Gardenland Co‑op’s vision, mission, and values in all interactions.

Communication & Interpersonal Skills

Demonstrate a strong commitment to delivering excellent customer service and creating positive interactions.

Communicate clearly and respectfully with both customers and coworkers.

Work well within a team environment and contribute to a supportive, collaborative workplace.

Work Duties

Provide excellent customer service by engaging with customers, taking orders, answering questions about cuts of meat, cooking methods, and pricing.

Maintain cleanliness and organization of the meat department, ensuring compliance with food safety regulations.

Package and label product according to quality and safety standards.

Make hamburger, patties and other fresh in-store made product.

Receive, organize and arrange orders in the freezer and coolers. (Repeated heavy

Ensure displays are attractive and full, follow merchandising guidelines and maintain first-in-first-out process.

Safety and Work Requirements

Must be willing to work with raw meats including; beef, chicken, pork, lamb, seafood, sausages and other types of meat.

Can stand for extended periods of time and perform repetitive tasks.

Can lift 50 lbs on occasion, and 30-40 lbs repeatedly.

Can work in a cold, damp work environment for the majority of an 8-hour shift.

Willingness to be trained as a meat cutter an asset.

Qualifications

Good oral communications skills required. Must be able to read and write in English.

Previous meat, deli, or commercial kitchen experience is an asset.
