This position is hybrid; the successful candidate will be required to be in the office at least three days a week.

The Canadian Press is looking for an experienced, dedicated and passionate journalist who is able to cover a variety of assignments with speed, accuracy and flair. The successful applicant will also be required to regularly bring in original ideas that will help drive the news agenda. This position will involve regular evening and weekend shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Writing, editing and gathering multimedia content for CP’s various services (print, broadcast and video)
  • Reporting breaking news using all platforms, including social media
  • Self-starter who comes up with own story ideas, projects and exclusives
  • Ability to multi-task under tight deadline pressure with speed, accuracy and clarity
  • Editing copy and doing desk work
  • Doing regular shift work, including evenings and weekends

Skills and Experience Required

  • Journalism degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience working in a real-time, digital newsroom
  • Solid news judgment
  • Solid writing and editing skills
  • Proven ability to use social media as an effective news-gathering tool and as a way to boost the profile of The Canadian Press
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team
  • Familiarity with CP style is an asset
  • Bilingualism is an asset but not a requirement

Hiring Range:The base salary for this role ranges from $55,377 to $89,254 per year. Placement within this range depends on a candidate's level of experience, technical skills and alignment with the role requirements.

La personne choisie devra aussi proposer régulièrement des idées originales de reportage pour activer la couverture de l’actualité. Ce poste prévoit des quarts de travail réguliers en soirée et le week-end.

Responsabilités

  • Rédiger, réviser et rassembler du contenu multimédia pour les divers services de la PC (écrit, radio et vidéo)
  • Publier des nouvelles de dernière heure en utilisant toutes les plateformes, incluant les réseaux sociaux
  • Faire preuve de débrouillardise en proposant ses propres idées de reportage, ses projets et ses exclusivités
  • Capacité à mener plusieurs tâches de front dans des délais serrés, en faisant preuve de rapidité, de précision et de clarté
  • Réviser la copie et faire du travail de pupitre
  • Effectuer des quarts de travail, incluant en soirée et le week-end

Compétences et expérience nécessaires

  • Diplôme en journalisme ou expérience équivalente
  • Expérience de travail d’information en temps réel dans une salle de rédaction numérique
  • Solide jugement journalistique
  • Excellentes compétences de rédaction et de révision
  • Capacité avérée à utiliser les réseaux sociaux comme pour obtenir efficacement de l’information et pour renforcer la visibilité de La Presse Canadienne
  • La connaissance du style de la PC est un atout
  • Le bilinguisme est un atout sans être une exigence
