Job description
Position description

Mount Allison University acknowledges, honours, and respects that the land named Sackville, NB is part of the unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People who are the historic inhabitants, custodians, and dwellers on the land where our University is built and confirms its commitment to strengthening relationships with all Indigenous peoples.

Mount Allison University is committed to diversity and inclusiveness. We encourage applications from members of equity-deserving groups, including but not limited to racialized individuals, Indigenous persons, persons with disabilities, and persons of all sexual and gender identities. We seek candidates with qualifications and knowledge to contribute to the further diversification of our campus community.

The Department of Politics & International Relations at Mount Allison University invites applications for a full-time Tenure Track position in Political Theory. The area of specialization within Political Theory is open, with the expectation that the successful candidate will develop the sub-field in a way that provides a broad foundation in the history of political thought. This will include a second-year introductory course in Political Theory, courses in ancient and modern political thought, and specialized upper-year courses in their area of expertise. The appointment will be made at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor and will commence on July 1, 2026, subject to budgetary approval. Candidates must possess, or be nearing completion of, a Ph.D. in Political Science, have an active research agenda and a commitment to high quality undergraduate teaching.

We seek candidates who will contribute broadly to the delivery of curriculum in the Department’s academic programs (Political Science, International Relations, Canadian Public Policy and Philosophy, Politics and Economics) as well as to provide support to the Frank McKenna School of Philosophy, Politics, and Economics.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach the equivalent of five 3-credit courses, including the Department’s introductory course (on a rotational basis) and courses at the second, third, and fourth year levels. The candidate is also expected to develop a creative, independent and productive research agenda.

A complete application should consist of one PDF document:

a cover letter;

a Curriculum Vitae;

a Teaching Dossier (teaching philosophy, evidence of teaching effectiveness, sample course outlines);

a statement of research interests;

a sample of scholarly writing.

Three letters of reference sent directly to the Chair.

The deadline for applications is March 15th, 2026. Complete applications should be sent electronically to:

Department of Politics and International Relations

All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority. Canadian and permanent residents should indicate their citizenship status in their application.
