This position will begin on January 1, 2026-July 1,2026 (start date to be negotiated). Applicants must hold a PhD (or equivalent) in Comparative and International Education by the start of the appointment. We encourage scholars with interests across the education continuum (, early childhood, K–12, postsecondary, and adult education) to apply. Applicants with strong quantitative and/or mixed methods research skills are particularly welcome, although all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply.
The Position
We are seeking candidates who will contribute meaningfully to our vibrant and dynamic research and teaching community, and who bring expertise that enriches our Faculty’s commitment to equity, internationalization, as well as community-engaged and socially responsive scholarship. This position is a tenure-track appointment at the level of Assistant Professor; the job responsibilities reflect those described in the . The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the research culture of Ontario Tech through the development of an active research program that attracts research funding and cultivates exciting learning and training opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students. Teaching assignments will include both on-campus and online courses; applicants will be expected to contribute to in-person, on-campus life at the downtown campus of Ontario Tech in Oshawa, ON as well as bring knowledge, experience, and expertise teaching in online learning environments. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the development and administration of the Faculty and University through active committee membership as part of their service commitments.
The Ideal Candidate
The Frazer Faculty of Education seeks to appoint a scholar in the field of comparative and international education, with a particular emphasis on the Global South. The successful candidate will contribute to advancing critical scholarship on education in global contexts, bridging theoretical inquiry with the analysis of policy, practice, and institutional reform. The position reflects the Faculty’s commitment to addressing key challenges at the intersection of education, development, and global governance, and to fostering research that interrogates existing structures while envisioning equitable and sustainable futures for education worldwide.
The Frazer Faculty of Education invites applications from applied researchers specializing in comparative and international education, with a particular focus on research projects/ collaborations with the Global South (Global Majority). We seek candidates whose research, teaching and/or leadership experience engage critically with:
- Emerging modalities of international cooperation, including the roles of multilateral organizations (, OECD, UNESCO, World Bank) and bilateral agencies (, USAID, FCDO), and their influence on educational planning and reform
- Public–private partnerships and results-based financing mechanisms, with attention to the growing role of private-sector actors in global education
- Equity-oriented approaches to internationalization and educational transformation, particularly in relation to rapid technological, environmental, and sociopolitical change
- Structural inequalities within the architecture of international cooperation and their implications for marginalized populations
- Global norm-setting and its influence on national educational policies and practices, including the integration of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into educational frameworks
- Ethically grounded transnational partnerships in higher education, examining power dynamics, risks, and benefits in cross-border collaborations
- The impact of international large-scale student assessments (, PISA, TIMSS, and regional/national instruments) on educational decision-making and planning
The successful candidate will be expected to conduct active and innovative research programs and to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Ontario Tech is a technology-enhanced learning environment and the candidate shall be expected to have skills in the integration of technology into teaching and to model those skills in their own teaching in the University’s web-centric and mobile learning environment. Applicants should possess a PhD (or equivalent) in Comparative and International Education; a strong academic background; and an established record of excellence in innovative and scholarly research leading to peer assessed publications. Candidates must also demonstrate strong potential for outstanding teaching contributions. In addition, candidates should possess excellent English language skills demonstrating an ability to ensure strong, two-way communications on an ongoing basis that contribute to collaborative/collegial relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the community at large.
The successful candidate will be expected to follow a 40% Research, 40% Teaching and 20% Service workload each year.
Successful candidates must:
- Have applied research experience working with partners in the global south
- Have research skills in qualitative and/or quantitative and/or mixed methods research; quantitative skills are an asse
- Have an emerging record of peer-reviewed publications (or forthcoming publications) in significant journals
- Have an emerging record of peer-reviewed publications (or forthcoming publications) in significant journals
- Demonstrate a history of successful research funding commensurate with career stage, and/or experience managing funded research projects with the global south
- Demonstrate potential for exemplary teaching and graduate supervision and training
- Potential to cultivate and lead equitable, diverse, and inclusive approaches to interdisciplinary research partnerships and/or community engagement
- Embody a commitment to knowledge mobilization via academic conferences, publications, and other non-academic activities that connect research and practice
- Have lived experience relevant to this role (including, but not limited to, experience researching/teaching in international contexts)
The Frazer Faculty of Education
The Frazer Faculty of Education has undergraduate programs (Bachelor of Education, Bachelor of Arts in Educational Studies) and online graduate programs (Master of Education, Master of Arts [Education], and Doctor of Education).The faculty is known for its technology-driven approach to education including integrating digital technologies into classroom practice, encouraging the use of multiple forms of technology and digital literacy, preparing teachers and graduate students to be leaders in the use of emerging technologies.
