About the Role -
Seeking an experienced, skilled and self-starting I&E technician to join our teams in the West Texas and New Mexico Energy Corridor. The successful candidate will be responsible for commissioning, start-up support, troubleshooting and maintaining instrumentation and electrical equipment for major industrial clients in the oil and gas industry. The successful applicant will be expected to work 4 weeks on with 2 weeks off, plus the option to work additional weeks when requested.
Responsibilities -
Install, commission, repair and maintain various instrumentation equipment associated with industrial processing facilities.
Experience with operating DeltaV and other DCS systems, AMS, Honeywell, Wonderware, Factory Talk, Yokogawa, etc.
Demonstrated testing and troubleshooting techniques on all types of transmitters. MVS, LT, FT, PT, TT, LSHH’s, LSLL’s, ROCs, etc.
Demonstrated knowledge of device communicators (HART, DE, DTM).
Understands PLCs and can translate programmed logic to field actions. Programming experience is considered an asset.
Troubleshoot natural gas fired burners and other combustion equipment such as turbines.
Demonstrated testing and troubleshooting techniques on all types of valves - process, control, safety and MOVs.
Be aware and understand the implications of testing devices in a running facility, taking them out of service, bypassing control loops and shutdowns accordingly while communicating with operations on the potential effects in the running plant.
Gas detection calibration of H2S and LEL, including flame detection.
Experience with configuring and troubleshooting guided wave radar and differential pressure level transmitters.
Installing and troubleshooting a network architecture, fiber optic, Cat 5 communications and familiarity with SCADA considered an asset.
Willing to learn and support onsite vendors with specialized equipment. Including burner management for steam and hot oil, gas chromatograph, refrigeration, compression, vibration, boilers, gas turbines.
Knowledge and understanding of area and equipment classifications (Class,Div).
Install, commission, repair and maintain various electrical equipment associated with industrial processing facilities.
Operate switchgear, MCCs, VFDs, RVSS’s, PID controllers, and 3rd party vendor equipment HMIs.
Understand all aspects of motor control, testing, troubleshooting and predictive signs of failure.
Experience with AC and DC UPS installations, operation and testing.
Understanding of main process motors 480V-4160V and auxiliary motors 120V-208V.
Understand power distribution from (MV) incoming feeders and transformer characteristics to downstream switchgear assemblies, breakers and their associated protection relay philosophy.
Knowledge of protection settings including PT and CT operation.
Experience racking in and out 480V and 5KV breakers in addition to function testing.
Must be able to phase out motors for correct phase rotation and identify the rotation of the load being driven.
Familiar with NGR AND HRG ground fault philosophy.
Experience with heat trace troubleshooting and proper installation techniques (MI and SR).
Demonstrate testing practices on motor feeders and distribution feeders including parallel runs and cable bus.
Fundamental comprehension of the NEC & CEC rules and apply them for inspection purposes.
Proficient with reading and interpreting drawings including P&ID’s, electrical schematics, loop drawings, single line, power and control drawings, PFDs and construction IFCs.
Driving to remote sites with limited directions and signage.
Quarterly inspections on tools and all calibration equipment and report any defects for replacements immediately.

Effective communication skills with our clients including operators, managers, engineering and other trades.
Familiarity with industrial gas processing facility, chemical treating units, and heating / cooling systems.
Ability to make time sensitive decisions with certainty and yet knowing when to ask for help.
Proven time management skills.
Works well with others in a fast paced, and at times, high stress environment.
Likewise have an experienced skillset to work alone on remote sites.
Willing to jump from light construction - maintenance - commissioning, in both instrumentation and electrical work.
Proficient computer skills and knowledge in using Microsoft Office and blue beam.
A keen interest in various control systems and actively engages in challenges while delivering solutions.
Can follow a supervisor’s direction, while at the same time share knowledge freely and train.
Must maintain a positive attitude and patience towards problem solving on legacy equipment.
Clear communication skills in English, written and verbal.
Qualifications -
- 5+ years of experience in the instrumentation or electrical field in the oil and gas industry.
- Must hold a valid Journeyman Instrumentation Technician or Journeyman Electrician certificate.
- Valid drivers license
- Previous commissioning and start up experience in an industrial setting is preferred.
- Previous maintenance experience in an industrial setting is preferred.
- Capable of working well with a team or as the only technician for any given size facility.
- History of, or certification in Arc Flash training. CSA Z462 and NFPA 70E.
- Confident with safely testing voltage and current on live circuits.
- Must be willing to work weekends and overtime hours in all weather conditions.
- Able to pass drug and alcohol testing.
- Able to legally work in the United States and qualify for a work Visa.
