Job descriptionJuris Doctor (JD) or equivalent law degree from an accredited Canadian institution. Licensed to practice law in Ontario or Alberta. 5–8+ years of experience, at least 2 years in‑house at a fintech, financial services, or technology scale‑up, or in private practice focused on corporate / commercial law. Strong background in Canadian financial regulations (FINTRAC, OSFI, CSA) and data privacy laws (PIPEDA, GDPR). Proven expertise in drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements with banks, insurers, or fintechs, ideally in digital assets or blockchain. Experience managing regulatory filings, corporate governance, or cross‑border transactions in high‑growth environments. Familiarity with cybersecurity compliance (SOC 2, ISO 27001) and vendor risk management is a plus. Pioneer Financial Innovation : Play a central role in launching Canada’s first regulated stablecoin and scaling a multi‑billion‑dollar ecosystem. Who We Are
Tetra is leading the digital asset revolution in Canada, securing institutional adoption through compliant custody and launching Canada’s first regulated stablecoin. With $10 million backing from leading banks and fintechs, we manage over $2.5 billion in assets under custody.
Who You Are
You are a strategic legal mind with 5–8+ years in fintech or financial services, licensed in Ontario or Alberta. You thrive in high‑growth environments, partner with executives, and drive legal strategy toward senior leadership within 18–24 months.
Responsibilities
- Regulatory Strategy & Compliance : Lead legal efforts to ensure compliance with Canadian financial regulations (FINTRAC, OSFI, CSA) and international standards (FATF, GDPR). Spearhead regulatory filings and advocacy.
- Strategic Partnership Management : Draft and negotiate high‑stakes commercial agreements (MSAs, licensing, NDAs) with major financial institutions and fintech partners.
- Corporate Governance : Oversee corporate governance under CBCA, maintain board minutes, advise on fiduciary duties and risk mitigation.
- Contract Lifecycle Management : Develop and streamline contract management processes with legal tech tools.
- Risk Management & Advisory : Provide proactive guidance on cybersecurity, data privacy (PIPEDA, GDPR), AML / KYC, and IP protection.
- External Stakeholder Engagement : Serve as the primary legal point of contact for regulators, external law firms, and security auditors.
- Strategic Legal Leadership : Partner with CEO and leadership to shape legal strategies supporting fundraising, M&A, and global expansion.
- Process Innovation : Implement legal tech solutions to enhance efficiency and scalability; mentor future legal team members.
